Personal setups » Mt. Hood Hut to Hut Bikepacking Setup by mgindle

I spent some time this spring building a set of bags for myself with many prior revisions, some of which never made it onto the trail… I’ve finally got  a setup I’m happy with, but already have plans for the next generation to help the structure of the frame bag and top tube feed bag.

Siren John Henry with fresh powdercoat and durable, mid level components.

Seat bag, frame bag, top tube bag, and handlebar harness of my own making. Performed beautifully throughout a solid day of rain and muck, 4 days worth of bikepacking, and 160 miles around Mt. Hood.

This is super helpful. I am doing the same trip in a couple weeks. it seems like you carried a little more gear than i was planning on. Did you have a backpack too? what all did you put in your bags? any suggestions for the trip would be much appreciated.

The trip was amazing and I would recommend it to anybody! I was pretty happy with the things I carried. raingear was essential, we got dumped on for the majority of day 3 and the temps were surprisingly cool for July and I was glad to have a rain jacket and wool sock that day. I was also glad to have packed a down jacket for kicking around at the huts. It gets cool at night and being able to put on a set of warm dry clothes allowed us to enjoy the evening outside once we got to camp. I did carry a small backpack but only carried some water in it. Those bags are not very full and certainly not fully compressed so it might seem like more kit than it actually is. This was a bit of a shakedown trip for my DIY bag setup

Hopefully the snow is cleared out on the day 2 route for you. We had to detour around a section of trail that I’m told is the bees knees.

If you’ve got anymore questions about the trip, shoot me an email to mgindle at gmail

Looks like a great setup and more than enough for the hut to hut. I did it in early Sept this year with just a compression seat bag and large fanny pack strapped to bars. Camelback with just water. We were lucky and had a week of clear weather though. The hut system was awesome.
