AZ boyz,
Tire choice and pricker level compared to the AZT300? Is it full on spikey things again? Just need to Stans up some tires and I've got Nano, Mtn King or Nevegal for the front and Nano or DryX for the rear. Or I could buy something else like a snakeskin ralph or 2.2 race king which i hear is fat.
I need to look at the track but I thought I remember you saying there were food options on the road and at least a couple good water stops?
Are we likely to see blazing temps? I assume fall at 9k can be chilly but I'm just curious what the upper end is likely to be? 90+ or just 80s at best?

Plenty of places to buy food.... Sedona, Cottonwood, and Williams.
This is one of the most technical, rocky loops I think you are going to ever do. Not too many cactus on the loop, just rocks.
Rocky Secions include AZ Trail outside Flagstaff, Hot Loop on top of Sedona, Sycamore Rim, and Rocky Motto
Spikey Section include some parts of Sedona and the Lime Kiln Trail.
I would say expect from 30-90 degree weather, hard to forecast it out this late, but that is the norm.

I am still working on the 350 GPX file, but I estimate it will be a little under 400 miles and 40-44k of climbing.

Just back from the Mormon Lake area, tried to contact someone at the Knights of Columbus (to find out when they shut off the water) but there was no one there. There is a camp ground right next to the Knights but the water there is off already. But there is a small creek running through camp it goes under the highway just past the camp gound entrance about 100 yards from the Knights.
It is also only 2.5 miles from there to the store at Mormon Lake Lodge.

I did not see it I looked around the building near the 5th wheel trailer but I didn't see it I thought I was looking for something on the building not a sink.
It did look like there was someone staying in the trailer but there was no one around I knocked on the trailer door and yelled a little but no answer.

Yeah, it's a sink that is attached to a building, the largest one (mess hall, with a coke machine inside). Hmm, well it will be a gamble for anyone that tries to go for it. The creek may be a better bet, or maybe even Munds park.

Anyone else there thinking about doing the race? We need to know if anyone else wants to borrow a SPOT unit (courtesy of Topofusion/Trackerleaders). If you have a SPOT and plan on racing, send your information either to Scott or I.

Race start is open ended, but getting SPOTs to people is going to be a little tricky. If you already have yours, or want to pick it up in Tucson early, you're good to go and can start whenever. The short answer on how the tracking will work with the 'stage' system is that it won't do anything specific to the stage format. We won't know results until they are computed, which might happen along the way, to be phoned into MTBCast. We'll see though. I could program a bunch of special code to compute rough estimates of stage times + total times, but let's see how this experimental format goes first. And, it'll leave some speculation for the folks viewing at home. It may or may not be clear how the race is shaping up. |

Cues are nearly done and to pretty high detail, but there are some tricky spots out there and there are bound to be errors or things we missed in the cues. Going by them alone is definitely not recommended. |
