Do you think thinner road tires would do okay?..my tandem fits 700×28 at most in the back, wider clearance in the front available so no worries there. Doing the whole enchilada…Pittsburg to DC.

I met several guys along the way that were riding 700×28 tires, you shouldn’t have any problems. Good luck!

Hiked into Harper’s Ferry on the C&O canal towpath when I was on the AT. Looked like a fantastic route to ride. Harper’s Ferry is a blast too, at least it was last time I was there 12 years ago!

Thanx for the pics.

I used 700x28s on my ride of the GAP/C&O last spring and was fine with them. I had nothing but rain on the the C&O stretch and it would have been nice to ride something fatter for all the wet roots but it wasn’t too bad.
