With but a single BikePacking trip to my name (Circumnavigating the Chisos/Big Bend), I offer my setup for your kindly review.
I hope this is readable:
Thanks for sharing all your info Buddy. I don’t really have anything to add as I’m a newbie as well so just reading up and researching at this stage. Just the one question, how much did your bike weigh? So in total I’m assuming you ended up with about 65lb with bike?
About 65lb when I set out, but I started with 8+ liters of water and enough food for, what turned out to be, 4 days. I way overestimated how food. Next time I’m not taking a 5lb tent –just a bivy.
The weight was a non-issue. Yes, it slowed me down but that was part of the plan and it was never not enjoyable.
That was my only recommendation, is dropping that crazy FIVE pound tent! Ha! Good call on just the bivy for the desert. Nice set up otherwise.
The 5 pound tent is currently my lightest and I don’t yet have a bivy. In addition to being heavy and overkill, the tent blocks the view of the stars.
What brand of bike do you have?
I ride a BlackSheep stHighlight. It’s a titanium, softtail 29er.
Like BudgieBoy, I am doing a lot of researching and gear gathering for a June 2nd overnighter to get my feet wet. Love the spreadsheet. I have something similar started just to keep track of what I think I need. You really went all out on detailing the weight and whether or not the item was used. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.
Before posting the spreadsheet I hid a few columns that should what I would replace my current gear with and, basically, how much per gram that would cost. Thanks and good luck with your June 2 trip.
Thank you very much Blammo for sharing your information. Particularly your spreadsheet. I as well am starting planning for a late June trip and have most items I think, but need to organize as to know for sure. I’m in Ohio and going to ride in PA, so I have a tent for all the bugs (Big Agnes Lynx Pass I, 3 lb. 8 oz.)
