I know people will groan when they see this post but its not too early to be thinking about next years adventures, especially considering how fast these events fill once they open in September.

I looking for anyone who has been on both courses (either in the event or not) and could offer some description of the major differences if any. Both are on multiuse trails. Both seem like they are similar to rail-trail.

All opinions valued. Thanks in advance.

Tuscobia while longer, is easier than Arrowhead given ideal conditions. However as you know conditions are rarely ideal. Mentally arrowhead has some more interesting terrain and many more hills. Tuscobia is flat flat flat. It's also out and back which is a blessing and a curse. I really enjoyed racing both and frankly right now would choose Tuscobia just due to my personal scheduling issues.

The arrowhead is on a snowmobile trail, I would not call it similar to a rail trail. It has some fairly steep hills and it runs across swampy, rocky and grassy surface, not smooth gravel or pavement like a rail trail.

Try the required gear list from Arrowhead, Tuscobia, etc to start with. If you have specific questions I'll be happy to answer them but I don't have a complete rundown of my winter gear typed up and honestly it's pretty involved for winter. Plus what I carry really varies so you have to take the leap and just start trying things to some extent.
