+1 We may not have "mountains" in Georgia, but we've got thousands of hills. The way this route is laid out, racers are going to see a lot of them. Most of our ridges run diagonally and this route runs east-west. Just like 3000' speed bumps. Should be a great race! |

Yeah you have to keep in mind that you're doing 6-7000' for every 35mi. But unlike the Rockies, you're not knocking that out in 1 or 2 passes. You're doing this in hundreds of feet at a time. The Apps run SW to NE and this route dissects them E to W. The only real "breaks" you get in the terrain are crossing the valley into Dalton and riding the Snake Creek Gap section, which is a ridge line trail that actually flows with the "grain." But even that trail is no picnic. One thing the Westerners would have to their advantage is lower elevation. They're going to have some happy lungs, at least for a bit.

Is anyone else running this single speed? I'm bringing my rigid 29er single speed and I'd love to swap notes.
Does anyone have a clever solution for getting back home at the end? I'm researching bus lines back from Rome or nearby but no luck so far. Ideas? Its surprisingly difficult to rent a car... no one way rentals available from non-Airport centered car rental businesses. Go figure.

I'm sure others will be riding SS. Depending on when you get there I might be out there and can give you a ride back to ATL. That's a big if but if the timing works. There are probably folks in Rome who might lend a hand.

Contact Mulberry Gap about leaving your car there and then having them shuttle you from the finish. That is how I'm doing it. |

Unless someone is waiting for me at the top of Tray Mt or the like with a shower and full meal, I will be fully self-supported, that is why I need a burrow to carry all my stuff. I will be staying at Mulberry Gap Inn prior to and hopefully mid way during the race to take advantage of there services. We had the option to mail stuff there to be waiting for us but to avoid any questions or look of impropriety, I will NOT be mailing to or leaving anything behind at the Inn.
