I have been watching the 2 pink dots.   Does anyone know if VespaChick is still in, or has she dropped?

Tough to say.  FB discussion group seems to think 'still in' but has taken a wrong turn similar to a few other before her.

Edit: and something about approved alternates at a few spots along route.

Last few days have been a similar rhythm, Jesse managed to establish a lead of just over 100 miles, the chasing pack eats into about 40 miles of that while Jesse sleeps then he gradually gets it back to over 100 miles before he sleeps again. Evan, Donncha, Adrian and Kim are putting in sterling efforts to maintain that. If any are going to challenge they will have to pull a few all-nighters between here and Yorktown. Otherwise some very interesting battles for 2nd and 3rd should ensue!

So from now on it's mostly downhill for Jesse! I guess he is still on record schedule, but the wind is not blowing in his favor http://hint.fm/wind/ .
Why hasn't Trackleaders added the record flag to the blue dots, like they do for the TD'15? For the TransAm route the record is less prone to yearly reroutes and seasonal factors than for the GDMTB route, so it would make sense.

Not really. Eastern Kentucky and Virginia has a lot of climbing. If you get a chance to see "Inspired to Ride" you'll hear Mike Hall talk about how they didn't expect that area to be that difficult. The Appalachians are different from the West in that you have lots of up and down, as opposed to long climbs and long descents.

Well, once you get to the highest point of a route, there will be more downhill than uphill! I remember that the Ozarks stage between Farmington and the Mississipi had the highest elevation gain per mile of the entire route, above 80 ft/mi, higher than eastern Kentucky and Virginia and also higher than the Rockies.

I believe I was wrong in guessing that Jesse is on record pace. Unfortunately the intermediate timings of Mike Hall's 2014 ride on Trackleaders are incomplete http://trackleaders.com/transam14i.php?name=Mike_Hall . Taking MH published time for the entire route as 17d-16h, I backtracked MH time to Pueblo as 7d-16h-20m, compared to 8d-12h-45m for Jesse. So Jesse is now about 20 hrs behind.
It is a tricky calculation, because all Trackleaders times are relative. I hope I made a mistake! Please correct me if I am wrong!

I found a more accurate time for Mike Hall's ride on http://www.mountainflyermagazine.com/view.php/trans-am-bike-race-finish.html : 17d16h29m.
Taking the Yorktown point of MH's Trackleaders data as anchor, I backtracked the times when MH crossed the state lines that Jesse is heading now.
- Colorado/Kansas : 8d11h12m (Jesse passed this line after 9d3h7m)
- Kansas/ Missouri : 10d22h57m
- Missouri/Illinois : 12d6h35m
- Illinois/Kentucky : 12d23h27m
- Kentucky/Virginia : 15d5h30m
- Yorktown : 17d16h29m

I still hope that Trackleaders will corroborate my calculations. As I said before, this is a record of an established route. The Tour Divide record with its yearly reroutes and the mix of ITT and race data is a much more fuzzy target.

Cool! Yeah, Jesse is just a bit behind. But it's a very long route.
