Does anyone have a GPS recommendation for the ultra light backpacking?  I would want one that has the potential ability to be my primary navigation for something like the great divide race.

Is the following a good option?

Are there other options that come to mind?

Does the Delorme unit with integrated SPOT provide any benefit (i.e. does it actually use the same GPS subsystem to improve total battery life vs. having a separate GPS unit?)

Thanks in advance.

I have the PN60w Spot combo. I like it quite a alot for hiking & backpacking. Its not quite integrated as it is 2 separate units with both using 2AA batteries. I dont find this setup to be all that bike friendly. the available mounts are bulky and akward. Maybe a custom mounting system could be the answer to that though. It is likely not as light as a Garmin GPS unit along with a 2nd gen Spot.

One thing that is really nice is that you can send(out going only) custom text messages from the PN60 Spot combo.
