Yep, Joe. It's SR 71/CR 401/Sage Creek Road/FR 801 that is closed between Rawlins and Wyoming SR 70. The southern end of which is near Aspen Alley and the Sandstone Work Center. Word on the street is they are paving it from the junction of Sage Creek to the Forest Service Boundary. We've not totally confirmed that though.

State DOT is saying they don't have much info as it's some sort of federal project.

Whats the option for this since closed during the day?
It's only closed for basically 8hrs. So, there are still roughly 5 daylight hours to ride it, and the entire night.

Again, TD is looking for a re-route - and there are a few options - but until word of it comes these closure hours should be respected by everyone. There also may not be a re-route due to the fact that the route is not completely shut down.

Bad news about Alex's crash, had wondered what could send him back to Butte. Suspected something major but hoped it was just mechanical.

Speedy recovery to you Alex.

I am really impressed that so few racers are dropping because of the weather. Some really strong people out there this year!

Lunch breaks for a few cyclists.  It's a lot slower day today as the hard rain has started up again.

-  Cindy Dywan of WY has come and gone and has changed her gps batteries so should be spottable again.
-  Laura Hamm and Tom Uravetz of VA are Riding the U.S. for MS
-  Caleb Stolte ITT and Scott Larimore, both local boys from Whitefish are having more fun that TD riders should have.  And entertaining us as well.

Six more enroute to Ovando but not sure they all make it before I close up.
Carry On and Ride On!

That is the Tour Divide for you eh!? Going across so much country so many mountain ranges and mountain passes creates so much variable weather...it can deal such a deck of cards with weather. Living in Banff with my backyard / playground the mountains seals the deal on those thoughts (*for me only)

If you made it to the Question & Answer Session in Banff we discussed that very subject with bad weather various conditions causing the onset of hypothermia.
Hypothermia always plays the deceiving trickster while the mind plays games of can I go farther while knowing? Or might I respect it for its ways!??
I personally, am an idiot for not; I always misjudge in favour for the push; its put me in the hospital three times; there almost tired of me coming; but not really we're all one big small town happy family and take good care of anyone.
There very much Top notch rated here in Banff! headbang

I am amazed at the stories I hear; and CERTAINLY would LOVE TO hear all of what your ALL thinking ?

Wow! I feel bad for Alex Harris's crash. Hope he feels and gets better in a speedy way.
The South Africa celebrity and adventurer includes Everest Expeditions. I'm sure he's frustrated! Possibly got the Tour Divide come-back bug! Oh ya! See you back at the YWCA Alex ! I'll be here !  thumbsup

Go! Jefe Branham Go!
Go! Girls Go!
And Go! Guys Go!

I very much hope you all stay in touch as I go through all your email signing of the guest book I "WILL" get back in touch with you ALL who signed!  Wink

I really would LOVE to hear ALL your stories gang!!! thumbsup
Cheering for you ALL !
The road closures and on the fly changes very much concern me personally; thinking if it were me out there; thinking of how Jefe Branham made it through; I believe he told me he has No phone??
Can everyone please fill me in with your thoughts and feelings...I'm loving every second of it glued to the computer screen all days !

I am wondering if you can reach me at my email www.crazylarry.ca >Contact ? Please. thumbsup

Seems Billy Rice may have tired of the TransAm and has jumped on the TD.  Earlier in the TransAm his road bike frame busted and he had his Yo-Yo bike from last year mailed to him which is what he is now riding.

It's about time Billy came to his senses.

Not really. Sounds like he's picking up his new skinny-tired bike there.

Seems like he took a longer way to get there than needed, meaning he will have to back track a bit more than if he had stayed on the route a little longer and cut over later.  I bet he's pumped to get back on the road bike.

Yep. It's a brutal year but it is certainly not the first year that riders have been rain and snowed on for multiple days in Montana. You, Eric, should have a monument erected somewhere on Bannack. Maybe shaped like a trail of destroyed bike parts. ha.

Lets see how the movie handles his detour. I imagine there will be some epicness in the plan. Is epicness a word? ha

Just arrived soaking wet and shivering to Ovando:

Nat Cobb with Ashley Benns of the UK right behind him.  Off to Trixi's for food.
Tim Heighway and friend from TX via the UK are close behind them to Trixi's.

Weather sucks.  Cold.  Hard rain for last several hours.
FYI rooms at the Inn are booked.  Shelter at the Hoocow [jail], wagon and teepee are taken.
This will all be remembered as good stories afterwards. And will get better tomorrow.
Hang in there and Carry on!

Michael Cleaver of Oakland CA just arrived Ovando only slightly staggering and hallucinating :-).  Off to Trixi's for a hot meal and then definitely finding a place to bivey overnight and try to dry off.

Photos all pending later.

Okay photo time:

-  Tim Heighway and friend from UK in Ovando and spending the night.
-  Nat Cobb spending the night
-  Ashley Benns of England in Ovando and re-evaluating continuing to Lincoln after a meal at Trixi's.  And Yes!  He has called him MuM.  "She should be watching the world cup instead of watching my dot and worrying about me."

In Ovando!

Michael Cleaver who we met last year from Oakland CA and his home made bike that he did in about 100 straight hours.  Dedicated to The Grizzly Man.

Enroute from Seeley and who called in to say they were still coming in:  Mark Seaburg of MN and Henrik Madsen of Denmark.  Colin was to be with them but his blue dot is still in Seeley so looks like he'll catch up tomorrow.  After these guys the road is clear to Seeley.

That should be it for tonight folks.
Carry on!  And back tomorrow.

Every year there are at least two days like these.  Last year the Stray Bullet was filled with miserable shivering bikers staring at the fresh snow just above their heads.  It is part of the challenge.  Like I said.  It will make for excellent stories.
