The ones who hate that sort of thing (and there have been some big names in the past) do an ITT. No one needs to know you're out there except Matt.
You'll still be asked doing an ITT. There's hardly anyone out there, so it is not like a hassel. I was out there for a lot longer than most as I did 25 days - the only day I met a lot of people was into Wamsutter, but it was so hot and I looked so dead that people stopping were just concerned. Must have had like 5 pickups stop. I personally found those random interactions with random people - roading contruction workers, ranchers, mom's picking up kids from school - to be really interesting. |

Assuming he gets up and moving soon, I really like Chris's strategy. He will be rested and refreshed from Pie Town to Silver City and then it's just a massive sprint to the end. |

Since the Tour Divide doesn't route through a heavily populated pedestrian trail, interruptions would not be so concentrated, and if you are pedaling you don't have to stop, it would be up to visitors or fans to keep up |

I remember crossing onto Bursum Rd. that Chris is coming up on now, and saying aloud, "This is Hell." the 90+degrees F headwind blast furnace pouring across that valley, water seeping out of every pore faster than you can drink. Stay hydrated you noble Dividers!!

Sure thing, request away! All the plots should zoom and pan on a computer. Mousewheel or pinch zoom when 'focus' is on them should do it. On my Pixel phone they zoom through pinching too. Maybe drop me an email smorris@topofusion.com with the device/browser you are using. A question: Is it possible to still see the tracks (in race flow) of those riders that have scratched? Was especially looking for Sofiane's track.
Sorry, no, we pull scratches off the plot to reduce confusion. A checkbox to add them back in could be interesting though. 1. It would be great to have a visual representation of the elevetion profile in the flow chart along the miles axis. That could give a much better idea of how elevation influences speed.
2. Also, it would be nice to blend in shading to represent sunset/sunrise/night along the miles-axis of the chart to get a better feeling how night times influence riding times.
#2 - I built this in a while ago but it didn't gain too much traction. Since I have to do a little work to find and convert sunset/sunrise times I haven't been adding it to trackers, but I could for longer races like TD. #1 - It would be a little odd since elevation would be on its side, flipped 90* from what we're used to. But I agree it could be interesting to see. |

It looks like Chris is taking a little break at the work station. The weather for him going forward looks great. The weather for Separ and Hachita looks like highs in the upper 90s and no rain. Silver will be cooler. He must be getting that wow this is real feeling.

For those interested in Divide nerdery, Geof Blance's run is interesting. He finished geared in 2014, tandem with his wife in 2017 and this year is riding single speed. Potentially a first to complete a TD via 3 different categories?

Looks like there's a bit of thunderstorm action in the Gila today, and judging by Steve's speed he might have been caught in it. That Bursum Rd is pretty nasty if it gets wet...

If they can get to the CDT (last spike on elev profile) the single track mud can be way more ridable than the roads. |
