Yet another year.  Seriously though I truly cannot comprehend how all of you do this racing and touring.  It is a massive physical and mental accomplishment and adventure.  -ROUND OF APPLAUSE-.  That said I do have a legit question.  I was checking out the rigs of the 2019 TD and saw a guy with a flask of scotch mounted to his bike (brilliant idea btw).  With all of the long days and nights and dealing with all sorts of things.  I wonder how many other participants do a similar thing and bring whiskey or stop for beers or even smoke some pot to help out....  You all are some damn crazy MF-ers!!!

Last ones from this morning - Blackshale suspension bridge, then lots of riders heading south on the Smith Dorrien as we left the sunshine and into rain in Canmore. Good luck & safe travels to all TD'ers!

Thanks for pics. Follow Steve H and Sofiane, plus Geof B on SS. Looks like they are on about same pace as last year...

Hopefully, Josh Kato just has a defective SPOT device or dead batteries.  He's been camped on Elk Pass for quite a while.

Wonderful photos, wedelmaster - thanks for sharing.

I was in Banff for the Grand Depart in 2015 (not riding, just spectating...) and these bring back lots of memories.

On another note: I'm really late to the party this year and haven't kept up the past couple of years due to various things - when was the Flathead removed from the route?

The Flathead was removed after 2016 due to a couple of bridges being torn down.  One was replaced, the other was not to be replaced, but apparently was rebuilt sometime last year.  Koko Claims was added as the re-route and, to this point, remains part of the race route.  It's just several miles of hike-a-bike up a steep rock wash.  If both bridges are back in the Flathead, it's silly to leave a walking section in a cycling race.

Anyways...you can ignore the opinion part. Smiley

But it is not a mtn bike race if there is no hike a bike.  No wonder all the drop bar gravel bikes and so few mtn bikes

With that being said this is the forum the photos from Ovando will be posted on.  At the request of the riders I might add.  I will go on the FB media sites to announce that fact when they start coming in.
I always look forward to your pics snd commentary Angler.   Thank you for sharing!!!

It is a long race. Those who are at the front now might be half way back tomorrow. I know that I don't have the mental stamina to do what they do. Ten hours on the bike and I'm asking, "Why am I doing this?"

that is true but Evan is no stranger to suffering on the bike. He’s inching in fast!

He was planning on it but I think he has changed his mind as it may impinge on his CTR attempt....but I could be mistaken. Who knows how he might feel at AW  glasses2

So by 3am 6 riders have made it the 200 mi to Butts Cabin, Steve H first in and Kai Edel about 1.5 hrs later... Josh Kato might be in there too. Looks like Sofiane is pushing for an all nighter??

Wondering if it would be possible to have the media crew showing up on trackleaders like happens on other races like TCR and SRMR?? Interested to see how they piece it all together

We saw the same thing. After 4+ hours, we assumed that it was just a SPOT acting up.

ITT Nobo Michael Grosso is reporting tough conditions due to snow in New Mexico!   Pulled this from the facebook page: "PSA - what those guys said about Brazo Ridge was right. Terrible conditions of thick mud and lots of snow from NM border to lagunitas. A very hard hard day. I am completely wrecked. Maybe it will be better for SoBo riders but the NoBo should prepare for some serious shit. It’s awful and unrelenting. We are all used to tough trails but this is next level. Nothing is rideable and you will get covered in mud. Very slow going."

Not sure I ever recall snow being in issue in New Mexico in June!
