Where exactly does most of the pre race banter happen these days? Does not appear to be here....

What race Smiley

Yeah, FB land seems to be where everyone is.  I'm guilty too.  Trust me, if you were on FB TD forums you would be asking where Toby Gadd was about now.

Ha! The last few days I've resisted posting a rant about the questions and how it is obvious they haven't done any studying or reading. If they did a Google search they should find the old yearly prep and race threads.  I am genuinely concerned that FB is making it way to easy to get to the starting line without realizing they are in over their head.

Facebook creeps me out, it always has.  My gut has always told me it isn't going to end well for those that use it.  But then again I am old enough to prefer using paper maps.

The Toby Gadd threads should be required reading before any TD attempt. I still enjoy reading those.
The early TD pioneers set a high bar. It has slipped.
And speaking of records, didn't John Stamstead do it in like 20 days with only cue sheets and maps? Beat that one!
Would love to see Lael win it. She's as close to Mike Hall as they come.

Here's some news from FB.... snow is manageable on Red Meadow Pass- looks now as it did last year. Yay! There's already been a NoBo through Union and Togwatee passes. Lotta snow, but now there's a track. Lots of snow in Colorado of course, with 500% normal snowpak... but south out of Del Norte doesn't look bad. Route is still being checked out so no gpx file yet (which is found on topofusion.com). Koko Claims is still on, despite the bridge in the Flathead Valley being fixed... controversy over Lael's attempt as the filmmaker documenting the 2019 TDR is focused on her ride- turns out they are very good friends...

I am only on FB for the TDR and don't click on anything other than that, even my own profile. I find it creepy too.

The trackleaders link should be up soon, shouldn't it?  Haven't seen an email yet to get my InReach registered.  Is that normally 7 days out? So we should see it sometime tomorrow?

Well, yes it should. That has me a bit nervous as I'm planning an ITT.

Yeah, no Trackleaders Active Track yet for the Tour Divide '19. They are pretty late the year getting it up.

Excited for you to blaze the trail for us! NOBO or SOBO?

There are already SOBO riders on the route! So the trail is already blazed to my understanding.

Oh cool! I know of a NOBO but wasn't aware of a SOBO.
Really hoping trackleaders will be up soon!

Koko Claims is still on, despite the bridge in the Flathead Valley being fixed...

Not that it matters a hill of beans to anyone, but if both bridges that were out in the Flathead Valley in 2017 have been repaired, then re-routing over Koko Claims is silly.  The Flathead is the official GDMBR route and Koko Claims is mostly pushing your bike up a rock wash - the very thing the GDMBR was created to mitigate.

Joel

Since i don't recall seeing any notifications for spot rentals, and it is now likely too late to start that process, I am wondering if there is even going to be an 'official' track this year...?

I’ve been thinking the same thing. My buddy is signed up, but hasn’t heard anything at all. Awful quiet this year.

Haha ... yeah I asked the same question, throw Toby into a FB thread.... an incendiary ... sadly it all gets lost. But, we need more Toby's. It's disturbing how social media 'dot watchers' and apparently riders can dismiss [TransAm now, maybe TD] the basics of an 'unsupported' event by defending rider route deviations and lauding random freestyle open house situations from 'trail angels'. Maybe the time is coming that we need to say hey, lets leave the riders to rely on and support the small town commercial services along the way for food/accommodation etc. and not have a 24hr 'trail angel' open house on offer along the route. I don't have an argument for a bottle of water or a banana but it's just getting stupid.

My understanding is a lot of scouting has to occur due to possible reroutes, possibly due to excess snow.

My understanding is it isn't too late to do Spot rentals, but if you're planning that it needs to happen fast.

This is probably last minute for most of the riders but I am offering a ride from Calgary to Banff on Wednesday June 12th.  I can take up to 4 riders and bikes so long as they are not boxed(bikes not riders lol).  Hit me up if you are interested.  Good luck everyone.

EDIT*** Changed to Thursday June 13th!!  Message me if you are interested
