I've noticed the lack of posts, too.  On the other hand I'm not making as big a deal of the Tour Divide this year. I've got my bike, my gear, and I know what to expect so from the point of view of needing advice and encouragement (or dire warnings) I'm pretty good.

Maybe the popularity of the TD has peaked.  There just aren't that many people out there with the combination of interest, time, determination, and ability to race it.

I've also noticed interest waning on other cycling forums on almost every topic.  Mountain Bike Review, for example, is positively sleepy nowadays.  I don't think people even care about arguing over wheel sizes anymore, if you can believe it.

It has all moved over to Facebook - several new posts everyday in the 2017 Tour Divide Race group

I prefer it in the forums - seems easier to monitor subjects of interest and less scattered about

I agree.  Facebook can be a bit of a maze.  As for interest, there are over 170 people registered on the unofficial spreadsheet, so probably at least 200 participants this year.

Tour Divide is OVER!

Over!  Done!  No more!!  No one should line up!  That way some middle-aged, out of shape, has-been with bad knees and a rubber duck zip tied to his bike might have a chance of getting pie first.

10th anniversary of the TD is this year.

Just gets better with age.

My take away from this is that I need a rubber duck.

According to ABC news and the Indipac press release, Mike Hall may have been struck by a car and killed at around 1 pm PST today while racing in the Indian Pacific Wheel Race in Australi, several miles south of Canberra. Mike had completed 5000 km of the 5,500 km race.

Kristoff Allegart, the race leader, reportedly pulled out of the race after hearing of the accident.

It's been confirmed by news reports - there is a link over on the TD Facebook pages.  It sucks.

More interest than ever - 180 starters entered. A certain Josh Kato just threw his hat in the ring again too! (No time stated ... )

There are some Facebook Groups which have become poplular, probably because it is more user friendly, has a simple search function (not that many people use it unfortunately), is easy to start sub threads and it is on everyone's smart phone. Having read all the past forums here there are pros and cons of each, but racer involvement on Facebook is very high.

Popular Groups are:

Endurance Rides and Bikepacking (this was Scott Thigpen's group - now general bikepacking and ultraracing)
5,500 members

Tour Divide Racers page: Race Pics, Blog Links, Race Updates and Race Info (TD specific group)

Tour Divide Race 2017 - Racer Updates, Pics, Gear, Resources (TD specfic group)

I was in most of those groups. I ran into a bit of an elitist attitude and it reminded me of why I don't do much on facebook.. This place has always been a bit more laid back.

Even if my body/mind were willing/able I will never go faster than 13:22:51.  Time of finish seems less important than the why we want to finish.

Exactly. I will always be slow due to medical conditions but my reason for racing has never been to win. It has been to give to the trail all I am, to give to others all I can, and to experience one of the most amazing opportunities of a lifetime. See you soon.
