Thanks for the link to the webcams. It looks a bit wet there this morning.

Good luck to all of the racers and enjoy the journey! I am sitting at home itching to be there for the start - damn, this TD gets under your skin! I know what I will be doing the next 3 weeks or so...

I checked the webcams a couple minutes ago and saw 3 cyclists in full gear headed toward the Fairmont...it's almost go-time!!

There's probably too much snow to really attack Mike Hall's time (to say nothing of an additional 18 miles added to the route), but the challenge will be greater.

Good luck to everyone on the TD this year! I was at the start in 2015 (as a spectator) and it was exciting stuff. I wish everyone a speedy and safe journey.

Scratched. Lisa has edema.
Well that is mighty unfortunate news.  And here we in Ovando we anxiously awaiting her.  We were hoping she was just waiting for the GD group to catch up.  Remember when another female rider came in with it.  Nothing to fool around with and I could only imagine the pain and discomfort.  Sorry Lades!!!  Sincerely!

Indeed. It's amazing how obsessed I can get with dot watching.

For the ladies also watch Marketa Peggy Marvanova . Peggy for short. I rode with her for the first couple days in 2015 before she dropped me like a rock. I think she did 21 or 22 days in 2015. She is a strong rider.

The 2017 TDR Racing season is on and epic adventures begin.  Good luck to them all and hopefully the weather won't be too difficult despite rain in the forecast for much of the weekend. [Rumor has it snow to 6,000' or lower tomorrow night.  Low here is suppose to be, like, 32 degrees F --- yup back to normal.  Last year was an anomaly].

Ovando Montana is still here for them.  As usual I will be getting photos of the riders as they come thru [during business hours of 8 to 6 or 7 if they are just around the corner] and if the technical gods are with us; we are hoping to have a webcam set up today in front of the Blackfoot Angler to catch those coming thru too early, too late, or in the middle of the night.  I'll keep you posted on that.

And as in the past, I will gladly pass along words of encouragement  to the riders from friends and family by posting them on the message board if you wish to send them on.  That goes for SOBO, NOBO and ITT'ers.    What we do for one; we do for all.

Here's to a successful race!

Hoping someone takes the challenge of taking that "Heavy Duty Camp Grill"! Looks like a great mix of cycling gear for the weary!

Looks like Josh Kato got a little late start, but he is on route now.

Or maybe his Spot was acting up...

Reckon it was the Spot, MH had Spot trouble last year too. He's looking to be up in the early mix now.

For some context, Ben Steurbaut knocked out 400km in each of the first 2 days of French Divide last year. Nowhere near as much climbing, but the guy's super strong.

I'd say Lee Craigie is the one to watch. Her HT550 last year was pretty  stout.

I thought they had to use the new High Rockies Trail due to grizzlies
and what happens when they get to the orange line through Fernie?
What is now the official route?
