Just curious, where in the route is "the wall"? Following a friend's progress and wondering if he's past it yet.

Using just my words...

The route follows the Wigwam Forest Service Road until it turns left to actually cross the Wigwam River.  At this point, the route turns right, leaves the road, and goes into what looks like the woods.  It's actually a trail that goes for a half mile or so...and then there's The Wall.  One climbs The Wall, continues for another half mile or so, and then comes out onto another road...the one that goes toward Galton Pass, the descent off Conner Road, and the final run to the US border.

I studied the route for a LONG time before I figured out where it was.  It took detailed descriptions from Dave Hoswell, Jill Homer, and a little help from Google Earth before I finally figured it out. Smiley

Using this year's track via Trackleaders.com approx mile 256.  Just hover over the riders names and you will see the mileage marker.

Our first NOBO, KG Rides came thru last night, spent the night at the Inn overjoyed with a hot shower and soft bed after the last few days.  After breakfast at the Bullet he was out by 8 am.  This was a first test for the webcam to get single photos of riders I miss; they aren't close ups but at least you can see he is alive and well.

He said Ashley Benns had been ill when he passed him and with his spot still in Helena early this morning; he thinks Ashley is still feeling a bit under the weather.

Lastly KG's waitress said he is a YOYO not just a NOBO.  So if that is the case, here is hoping for a better opportunity to see him on his southern journeys.

Introducing Jim Morrell of the UK who is SOBO as a private ITT; meaning only those with a security clearance can see his spot.  He left 2 days earlier than the Grand Depart.  Interesting synchronicity in the universe is that he arrived into Ovando at approximately the same time Mike Hall arrived last year.  In fact they lived close to each other but from different towns.  Jim got his inspiration for endurance riding and the CDT after listening to Mike Hall speak a while back.

His arrival here was meant to be.

Jim is a really friendly guy with a huge smile despite freezing his ass off last night when the temps dropped to the upper 20's around here.  He napped about 10 miles south of Seeley Lake. Said Richmond Ridge still had a bit of snow on it but nothing like the horror stories of past; but he said don't mistake the fact that as difficult and painful as they tell you this race is.....it is far far worse.

He is trying to make it to Lincoln tonight and then get out of Dodge asap before the big wet storms arrive tomorrow night.
Enjoy.
I'll be back tonight for the leaders photos.  Been doing it for 4 or 5 years now; can't stop if they don't.
Continue On!

Perhaps. Just seems strange it would drift exactly to the Lodge, is all...

He really likes that place!  We stayed there for a brief vacation after his 2015 win as we were driving back home.  He checked in and got some sandwiches there for the road. The owner sent me a photo.   (this is Val, Josh is my better half) icon_biggrin

Our TDR 2017 leader Ben Steurbaut of Belgium has arrived into Ovando around 8 pm.  He has NOT slept since the Grand Depart.  And despite that he looks amazingly well.  Said the detour up north cost him 4 or 5 hours off of his schedule.  This is not his usual type of race so it is hard on the knees and the mind.  I informed him that despite all that you are rocking it Sir.  He plans on staying in Ovando for about 6 hours.  He is spending the night "in Jail". Going for a hot shower at the Ovando Inn as they are still open awaiting for guests, having dinner and zonking out til 2 am.  With the help of some mosquito repellent as they were eating him alive.  If anybody was watching on the web cam [https://video.nest.com/live/TcqLm0pt14] he waved.

Next in line is Brian Lucido who should be here in about an 1.5 hours.  I will wait for him.

Been watching (and listening) on the webcam.  Just heard someone say he was in the shower.  Great reality TV!
