Trying to fill in some info gaps here. Does anyone happen to know the exact Tour Divide finish times for the following? The info on Trackleaders is a couple minutes off since their SPOT trackers didn't fire exactly at the finish line. It's probably +/- only a minute or so but I'm still curious.

Personally, I'd rather go all out and come in third than make a decision for everyone to finish together and tie for first. I'd find that hard to stomach. It is a race after all. It looks like they are riding right near each other at this point. Come Silver City my hope is that they shake, wish each other luck and may the best man win. But I'm competitive like that... |

My utter guess without knowing any of these leaders is that I doubt there will be a sprint finish, and I do feel like someone will make a move and come away with the victory.
The Silver City transition will be interesting.
Despite how far they have come, I'm sure they know that 100+ miles is still a long way to go. No sense in really attacking yet. I bet they will do some probing, but I think the real attacks will happen within 20-30 miles of the border. If noone can get free after that then I guess I can see some kind of tie happening.
But not before some pain is inflicted first.

? This is a race, and racing is as much about strategy as effort. If you think winning races shows a lack of class, why race at all?
I have no problem about winning. It's how you do it. We don't race for prizes, it's honour. Kind of like the grand tours where the unwritten rule is you don't take time out of your opponents on the last day. And in multiday bikepacking where it's unsupported you break them before that. It's not win at all costs. You race with honour and within the rules. Because over multi days it would be so easy to break the rules. In 2008 several guys yoyoed along but finished together. One of them was way ahead but came across an accident and stopped for a long time to help. Then joined up with the others. Classy. In 2013 3rd 4th and 5th was settled by a sprint. All three where on different set ups. I don't remember who said race to the end. But I recon it wasn't the guy on limited gears. Not a classy 3rd place. (This is just my opinion) fantastic racing. The racing has been amazing this year - whatever plays out all these top 5 have blown apart JayP's record and are phenomenal athletes. Does anyone know what the previous GD record was? (i.e. for a GD start rather than aiming for the perfect weather window) |

You are talking about the sprint finish for 3rd place between Alex Harris, Liam Crowley, and James Olsen. James (from the UK BTW) ended up 5th because of his limited gearing. He was running a 1x6 drivetrain on his Jones. And a sprint finish is exactly how James wanted to finish his race. I'm pretty sure drivers at the Dakar rally aren't waiting for each other to cross the line together! |

Honoring the sport and the race is to push until you can push no more. On the other hand, if they all agreed at some point that they'd finish together and then one guy sprints out, that is breaking rule #1 in racing...don't be a dick.
It's cool that there are 3 strong guys at the end and any of them could win. You just don't see this in long races like this very often. I got almost no work done today!

Ie self supported, no drafting etc. Do what you wish. This has nothing to do with nationality (for the record I am northern irish). Believe me I am as stubborn and ruthless as anyone in business and play. But I don't have a win at all cost attitude in sport. This is solely my opinion and it's great to have a different opinion.
