Fascinating start to this year's race with a new bunch of youngsters setting a really hot pace on Day 1. IMHO the first day is probably one of the easiest of the entire route - day 2 in the Flathead will start to reveal the true front-runners.

Mind you, I see JayP's SPOT hasn't sent an update for the last two hours so I guess he's going to magically appear in Elkford any second now!

Great to see fellow Brit Andy Laycock up near the front - great stuff Andy - keep it going !

Good to see the current 'record time flags' pop up on the tracker now.  Splits for first 2 leaders to Elkford are also recorded, at a blazing 7hrs 25mins.  Booyah.

Good to hear that Robin B is back on track.  headbang Fours hours is nothing in this race, its a blink of an eye ;-)

To have to descend into Canmore and then climb back up to Spray Lakes is a bit of a bummer; adds more elevation to his first day.

Top 10 are already nearing or passing Elkford and it's only 3:11pm pacific. Massive, I'd be asleep by now.

In the first 10 hours the speed average is near 15 mph. It´s awesome! This is more similar to a marathon race than an ultra!

Shout out to John and Peter, you guys are flying... We're so proud of you!

Love from Killi and Pollay-Pollay

Also if anyone sees Jean Michelle from Tahiti on the route let him know we think his tracker isn't working..shows him in Banff still, we saw him go off this am.  Sad

I post lots of Tour Divide pics over on the MTBCast FB page. Been far out of range on the route with the racers today so will try to get as much posted as I can this evening!

Yep, his 16 yr old daughter.  They are under "Team Rice Burner".

Is that a custom carbon tandom? I think I know who I'm rooting for.

Wow - what a first day!  It looks as though Connor O'Leary was first to stop - a good 90 minutes before his 3 chasers who crept a few miles past him. Looks like those 3 may all be in the cabin alongside the track. Whilst they sleep, three more chasers are still on the road, and are closing fast. It's going to be fascinating to see how they all emerge from their first night's rest. Will anyone push on to the border without stopping?

Great to see Marshall Bird (flag carrier for the more mature riders) having a good run this year and already well past Corbin.

That would be a mental letdown, to have to climb back up to the Smith-Dorrien road. Now it looks like his spot is back in Banff, anyone know what the issue is?

205 miles on the first day is huge! Can they keep it up? Time will tell. Where do the people stay in Corbin? Just bivi in the front yard of an unoccupied house?

Phil, there's a mine at Corbin with an open parking lot that makes a good bivi before starting up into the Flathead valley. The guys that get to the cabin are flyers, a big first day. Alex H is still riding at 3am, 215+ miles in..

I remember that parking lot, not much traffic up there. Yep big day indeed! Can he keep it up? Amazing. Some of these guys are riding like its just a race to the border!

You've been there before Phil  thumbsup If there's one thing Alex can do it's tough it out with the sleep monster, no point trying to predict his ride/sleep patterns!

Looks as though Alex - if he keeps going - will get close to Mike Hall's 2013 border time of 23:44. That's some effort!

The rider positions don't appear on Trackleaders map. Is anyone else having this problem? I could see them prior to the race and could see the Trans AM positions but now none appear. Any ideas for a solution?

Amazing how much faster this year is, overall.  Shows, among other things, how much affect the weather can have.  We were all pretty beaten down by the rain/snow and cold by the end of day one last year (or week one).  Everyone was soaked the whole time.  Glad to see that it looks like a pretty good forecast for the next few days so there's a chance for everyone to ride to their potential and stop when/where they want, rather than having hypothermia avoidance factor into the decision.  Aside from possible t-storms it looks like clear sailing for a while.

I'm seeing everything clearly (which I know doesn't help your situation). Did you try refreshing the riders' positions?

Where is young Ben Greene? I saw him yesterday, a couple of hours after the Grand Depart, behind the Y, and gave him directions to the Trailhead.   Wondering if he even started! His tracker is not on, so if someone sees him, let him know!
