I'm planning on sending some stickers up to the start. Unfortunately, I won't be going up this year after all. The stickers have the number on it but it is on the website Home page as well. 888-866-4491.
May I ask a stupid question? If the guys from abroad calling a toll free number with a mobile phone within the USA do we need to dail the country code (001) a) in the case of having a non US contract and b) in the case of having a prepaid at&t US sim card? The same question if we want make a call from Canada? Thanks! |

No, that is incorrect. Anyone can sign up with Trackleaders and get their Spot on the leaderboard. |

Mike Kerley and I are going to do the C&O Canal trail from Washington D.C. to Cumberland and back leaving today. I know, not many (any?) hills but still a good test of the kit (and the legs after a long flight) before the race starts in a fortnight. If anyone is in the area and out for a ride come and join us. I'm fairly sure if you use your German phone with German sim card you need to use the US country code, both in canada and the US, this is the case if I'm in the UK and using my Swiss phone to call a UK number. If you have a US sim card I guess you still need to use the country code in Canada but not in the US. Depending on your phone contract, probably none of the above are free, even though its a free phone number. |

If I'm reading the NWS map correctly, I see recent (24h) snowfall in ID, WY, and CO, and very slow melt up in Canada (although it is picking up).
If anyone has any on-the-ground route beta about snow depth and snow quality (postholing into slush puddles?), I'm sure many of us would love to hear.
I fully expected some snow up until about Whitefish, but was hoping that would be about the end. Any veterans care to guess what the trail will look like two weeks from now?

From my following, it seems Richmond Peak is generally the demarcation point. So South of Seely Lake you should be clear of snow in any significant amount. Togwatee would be another potentially snowy area.

Weather here in Banff has been challenging... I would say expect the walking to start by Elk Pass - from either snow or mud. that said, we are still 2 weeks out and some good weather is coming, so you never know.
best bit of advice I can give is... get some gore tex socks...

Hello - I am not a veteran (newbie from Canmore), but I have ridden out as far as Mt. Shark from Banff and there is no snow on the trail to that point. That was on May 21. We are getting some rain and cooler temps here in Banff, but we did have some warm weather for about 2 weeks at the beginning of May so things started melting out. I might get down to the Elk Pass area this weekend. I will post the details if I make it. The Breckenridge area has snow below 10,000 feet, depending on amount of sunlight hitting the area. Things like Boreas Pass (which is on route) is currently socked in with snow. There's tons of time for that to melt, but snow is still falling in the area, some ski areas are still open, etc. This is what it looks like ~10,000 feet, near the Divide,  If you're currently on route, NB, the chances you'll hit snow like this after Salida are fairly good. Ten Mile Range from Frisco,  It may be just a given that you're going to have some sort of snow slogging en route, if you leave on the 2nd Friday, in race mode. Count on it, and prepare your feet for it. Maybe get some hiking in, so your body doesn't freak out and stop working right. |

Lordy that's alotta snow. Taking a peak at the Leaderboard on tourdivide.org it looks like Billy Rice will be sprinting for the Colorado line by the end of the day and will be contending with that snow very soon.
Snotel stations for the San Juans look to be pretty dry, though.

You could lose 2.5# by going with a different rain shell and insulation layer. Are you committed to those two pieces in particular? Will be fun to watch you kill it out there on a trike. I would be open to any suggestions for gear.
It's getting a little late for gear testing. I would suggest going with what you are used to and ditching/acquiring/modifying gear on the trail as necessary. |
