Hey..does anyone know why the tracker shows Kevin Dean cutting across instead of following the path in Canada? Just curious..

Heather Dawe did as well..does this mean they are lost or off the main beat?

Teamfaeth,Not sure what you mean. If you select the individual spot for a given rider you can then click there history and see all there pings. The red line is very close to the exact route and the purple line just connects the pings for each given rider. The red line is rather accurate but you can zoom in and see the exact trail or dirt road they are traveling. Rather amazing tech. Hope this helps

What's up with Dave Blumenthal? His last spot ping looks clearly off track.

Wow, ya he looks to be a mile off course and has done an extra 700 ft of climbing. Hope he gets back on track.

So I looked again, I there is a purple or blue over the red line, but then the blue line cuts across. Is that just to connect the pings like you mentioned? Can you explain how the last 10 points work and the times?

I'm just guessing. I'll leave further clarifications to people who actually know what they are talking about.

That's correct, the blue/purple lines are just connecting the actual SPOT points, they are not necessarily the path taken by the rider.  If the points are widely spaced they may appear to be cutting the course, but they are most likely not.  Points registered off the route are necessary to determine that someone is off.

Bummer about Dave B -- I know several people got lost in the Flathead last year.

The last 10 points are displayed just as a reference to easily see recent speeds and also if you click on them it will bring up the info window for each point so you can walk through them.  Otherwise there's nothing too special about the last 10 points.

I just got new SPOT info for Brad Perry -- he is now showing past the US border (rather than back in Banff).  Still 3 riders have no points since the start -- please get in touch with me if you might know anything about them.

Took me a bit to respond -- I just got in from 12 hours on the bike.  Glad I am done and resting at home, not looking down the barrel of 2500+ miles to go.  Wink These guys are awesome.

So, The bike shop didn't open until 10am. Sounds like they helped a brother and got him the part he needed and is up and running. Just wanted to say hi and I love reading all the post. I am a homemaker addicted to watching and tracking this race. So much fun! Thanks for all your expert input. At home praying for all the racers and cheering for my man!! Smiley

GO PETE!!! from Dogger and all your training buds at Murieta Cycling Group!

Hey! I am glad to see others are having fun stalking all of our friends on the great divide. My husband is Brian Aillaud, who I think is doing fantastically for not having trained for this but rather decided a scant week beforehand to escape the heat of Las Vegas and ride his bike for a few weeks. Watching the pings is a wonderful diversion from completing all of the work I should be doing. Go riders! Seriously, are the guys at the front sleeping at all? I'm impressed. Hope there isn't too much snow...

Thanks for getting Brad Perry's info updated! We didn't want anyone to think he was still up in Banff enjoying the sites.  nono

The last time he did the race he didn't have a spot tracker and I have to say it is a blast to watch all the riders and their progress. I'm really enjoying it from the comfort of my lazy boy.

Heather Dawe missed a turn on Saturday night just south of the border.  She figured it out  and back-tracked to correct the mistake.  She lost <1 hour.

Does anyone know how they make the projected times on the split chart? Is it just average miles per hour or is there more that goes into it?

It looks like two more riders have missed a turn. They'll have to go a long way back to correct their mistake!

I think Domecq and Temple both had older maps with the route through Fernie rather than the proper cues for the Flathead route. Relegation straight away I'm afraid.

It does look that way.  That is unfortunate, especially since Christina was going for the women's record.  My understanding is that the 2010 maps feature the Flathead route and that it's the official route.  They must have older maps, like you said.

Projections are based on average speed along the route and mileage to go.  For the first few days they will vary depending on what time of day you look at it (with the projections being to fast near the end of the day, and perhaps too slow right in the morning), but it will even out in a day or two and give a good indication of the 'pace' of each rider.  Last year the predictions ended up being quite accurate for most riders.

Scott,

Here is a link to Suzanne Marcoe's tracker - can you update it so it shows on the official site?

http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0JucDIIpgm25fQ0k24b7htYDdpN5YGzQR

We figured out the night before that the link she gave Matthew wasn't working.  We sent him the new link, but figured he wouldn't be checking his email the night before the race.  I emailed the link to the admin at the tourdivide.org, but I'm not sure if anyone is checking that.

Thanks for the help,

Donnie

ps.  GO SUE!!!

You got it.  She is showing up now on the tracker, thanks for the link.

I finally figured out that I am not getting the TD admin emails.  It was supposed to be set up to forward to me, but I think Matthew must have forgot to do it at the last moment.  I guess we'll cut him some slack on the night before the race, given that he's organizing, dealing with the tracker setup AND (most importantly) racing himself.  Smiley

I should be getting those emails soon, but if you sent something before (tracking related) and haven't received a response yet, feel free to email me directly (smorris@topofusion.com) or post here.  I'd love to get more people to show up on course, rather than in Banff!
