Those Ride the Spine guys layed it down:  http://www.ridingthespine.com/main.html as one BIG one.

I think that ride trumps all the others, no matter how many you do in a year  icon_biggrin

I hope y'all have noticed how many options abound. All grassroots. The fever is building.
Soon we'll have a "Sierra trail Race" here in CA to create a third option for "A" triple crown. Arizona then Colorado then 'Californification'....
As for the Alaska thing...that's a single crown that blows all other away. I'm not much for dogma...but all hail the competitors in the Iditabike race. Ain't no fakin' it.

It's true, it'll be a DIY Dirt World Tour. When Beardog compiled this, it nicely reflected - AZT: Giro, TD: Tour de France, CTR: Vuelta. Hope it stays truly, "underground", with standings lovingly kept by the participants and the enthusiasts.

Even though there's ~5 months between the start of the first of the three and the finish of the last of the three, that's some serious time on the bike and not much time to recover 100%, if you're going full-stop on, well, any of these. Which, I think adds a nice dimension to it all, to be honest. When you meet up at the starting line, or the night before for a friendly beer, it's another fun personal goal for someone to share, no matter what the races you want to "enter" are.

I'd like to participant in this revision, but man, that's a ton of time to be in and out of work. The only way I could swing it would be to stop, eh, living in the standard sense of the word, do the AZT, hang out a month, camp, do the TD, hang out a month, camp, do the CTR - and then... Huh?.

Poor bike! Smiley

Yea, I think I'll give the 3-crown a shot. I was planning the AZTR300, TD and CTR already. Whats 450 more miles?

the spine is pretty amazing --Matt Lee and I have discussed this as a race some day soon- but not for 3.5 years-more like the divide-same with a cross europe self supported race from perhaps Portugal to the coast of china or Russia. The Global Bike Race was to start 2/18/12 in London and myself and another TDR rider from last year Mike Hall were going to race to circumnavigate the globe self supported faster than the current record by Vin Cox of around 163 days but I believe has now been cancelled. I could not devote the time and money to such a lengthy endeavor and still have a family to come back to here in CO. So must be settle for just the three western epic races.

Kurtis, welcome to the fray--my sentiments exactly--just another 450 miles (there are many that we hike anyhow)-my wife and I just added a road ride in July down the coast of vietnam (1100 miles ) but that is a pleasure ride with lots of rice wine and beer so doesn't count towards the mileage--in anticipation of the 4000 miles for this version of the triple crown I just redid my entire drive train with the xtr 3x10, had Hadley rebuild myhubs and put on a new fork--last 2 years I went through two cranksets training and riding the TDR-as an earlier post mentioned-it is hell ont he poor bikes (not to mention of course your ass) - I too must get my ass to work to pay for this time off--a wise person once wrote that "it is better to work to live than live to work"--my sentiments exactly.

see you at Parker lake-

Now that the AZT750 is done only Kurtis and I remain committed to riding all three in one season s the first triple crown. True there will be others as a result but this one is the first for those who care to join us from the AZT finish list. Kurtis had an awesome ride in 9:05:36 which he now desribes as "brutal" (as the rest of us do as well). I finished in 11:14:04. Kurtis is about 38 taking time off from a 10 year ride around the world to ride our little races, me -- just a 51 year old guy who likes to ride alone for long hours in the woods and ever growing challenges. Given the way records are kept I think we will then have an overall and masters (plus 50) times to start this off for the years to come. Scott or someone can correct me if this wrong. See the rest of you in Banff.

The first race is in the books and two of us now riding all three from the start. Kurt S. (9 days 8 hours--age 37) and me (11 days 16 hours-age 51). A brutal start for us and a lot harder than I expected for sure. My write up is at bothhttp://triplebikepackingcrown.blogspot.com/ for anyone thinking of riding the 750 any time soon. See the rest of you in Banff in a few weeks where we can enjoy a full MTB "RIDE"
