Glad to see Jesse moving again.

Looks like something happened about a mile or so into Gold Dust trail. Spent about a 1/2 hour in basically one area. According to his Spot coverage it sure looks like he rode it all into Como.

We think he had a puncture at that point, not an obvious spot to have weather issues. He had a inner tube in his back wheel. And then probably just outside Como was hit by lightning. His rear tube was completely flat and the guy who found him said he was cycling on it.

Brett Simpson called in from south of Boulder. Scott McConnell called in from the route in Wyoming. He’s riding for Ride-for-Reading. And Fred Arden called in from Squirrel Creek.

*Maybe it's no coffee but my Southern ears can't make out that second caller's name. Anyone?

Hey, I'm not sure if Joe Polk's MTBCAST PayPal "Donate" button is working.  Let's all go there and make a donation to make sure it's functioning!  It's in the right-hand sidebar at www.mtbcast.com.

James O's Spot has gone silent for nearly 18 hours.....has anyone seen him in Steamboat Springs or does he have a serious problem? He may have just forgotten to turn the thing on, of course, but I am living up to my name, and the Radar is twitching!! Glad to see Jesse Carlsson is back - at least lightening can't strike twice....we hope! Any news/info welcome. Thanks.

A side note on this hydration "thang", back in the race we got a call from a previous town that a rider [whose name we'll protect] was disoriented and miserable and a passing rider had actually helped pick him up off the ground.  They said he was demanding to continue our way and to keep an eye out.  We get a lot of those calls.  But this one was serious.  When he arrived he couldn't remember his name.  Couldn't answer easy questions.  Disoriented...all of it.  We helped get some protein food into him, a bunch of water, good nights sleep, more water, more food..... the next day he was a new person and admitted that water wasn't the only thing he was unconsciously abstaining from but apparently food as well, other than candy.  He must have learned his lesson.  The dude is making record time compared to where he was previously.  Hoping he makes it and keeps fueling up.

Sometimes eating is the last thing you want to do, but it is necessary.  Bonking affects you physically, emotionally, and mentally.

As far as route from Banff to Elkford - you can't get there from here, or there. More than just goat creek trail washed out.

We are starting mid July and are in the same boat - having to divert start to Fernie or thereabouts. Kiss ITT goodbye for this year.

Good luck

And once the Race is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the Race is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the Race, you won't be the same person who rode in. That's what the Race is all about.

Only one bid on these bad boys....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321143869373?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

These would be great for display in a shop along the divide somewhere, or for a fan to use on a slope top tube mountain bike.  They are stinky light....and were slightly stinky....most of that smell has gone or at least I just don't notice.

Remember....all funds go to gas money for myself and other Borderland Mountain Bike Association club members arranging shuttle trips from Antelope Wells to El Paso.

Sorry to hear that another German, Mirko Haecker, has thrown the towel. He is out. After a recovery day at High Mountain Lodge, yesterday he made it to Lima, but his knee problems did not improve.
He wrote this on his personal homepage available via his trackleaders-profile.

Soooooo...... What happen with Craig Stappler?Huh?Huh?Huh??

I was amazed at his Super Hero performance and I was (and still am) rooting for him .

The Mike Hall vs. Craig Stappler "Battle of the Titans" really made the TDR 2013 interesting.

I think all of us Blue Dot Junkies out here in TDR Fan Land would apprieciate some bit of a story as to what happened to a lengendary racer

Does anyone have something informative to say about Stappler' Scratch?Huh??

In reply to Randomlurker's post on Hydration: Wow, you are correct! Somewhat...lol.  All of these riders could benefit from IV therapy with the day to day rigors they are putting themselves through; and if there is a stomach virus on top of that, it is crucial that these athletes do something for their Hydration levels just to keep them from ending up in the hospital. I am one of two owners of Standby Hydration Therapy out of Arizona and Eric Foster is one of my riders!! Eric is an intense individual and a top competitor; he understands the importance of hydration when it comes to performance, recovery from one endurance race, and the rehabilitation to be ready for the next (Triple Crown Prospect right??). This is why we have put in place a plan to provide therapy for Eric before every race and after every race. Oh and guess what?  Robin Schartz may understand the importance of being hydrated going into an Ultra race such as this too... Standby Hydration Therapy and The IV Guys stand behind both of these top level athletes and plan on seeing them in Antelope Wells!!  I congratulate every athlete that started this adventure on June 14! So, Max and any other athletes returning home to AZ from the trail, give me a call directly to schedule your therapy session before heading down to Tucson 208-514-6558. Anyone else interested in learning more about us, find and like us on Facebook... Ride On!!!

Lance Armstrong was BIG on IV therapy - just sayin'

Here's to hoping that the TD doesn't go that direction.

Apparently Jesse was picked up by a truck driver unconscious and driven to Como when he is staying currently. He will have to backtrack in the morning to the spot he came off, assuming he is recovered. Not doing too bad for a rookie... headbang

Does that mean he falls foul of the (in my opinion) daft rule "Advancing (forward) on the route by any means other than one's own pedal power is strictly prohibited" - hope not!

I'm guessing that Matthew will cut him some slack because 1) it is not a material deviation since he was on the outskirts of Como at the time and 2) he was incoherent.
