What's the consensus on tires for the TDR? I rode, and have loved, Nanos for several years. When I recently upgraded, my new ride came with Racing Ralphs. After my first flat, the thin sidewalls gave me a little pause.

My favorite is the Geax Sagauro. Rolls good, traction is good on most surfaces, has enough volume for some comfort and wears like iron. Also super easy to set up tubeless.

Ditto Maxxis Crossmark rear, Aspen front. 1 set through TD. One flat, a pinchflat, operator error. Slime w tubes, because I was having trouble with my Stan's setup. I've since figured that out though!

I rocked the nano's. They worked well but be warned, they have a new compound that is soft and wears faster. I wouldn't plan on 1 set making the entire divide.

I've been considering the CrossMark for a while now. I was a little tempted to try the non-UST version to save a little weight (under a pound per 2 tires), but the idea of the tougher sidewall and your experience would suggest that the slight weight penalty has been worth it.
Are you running Stan's as well?
Did you vary tire pressure on TD or did you stick with one in particular?
Did you also stick with this tire for TNGA?

26: flows 29: crest tire pressure no idea, set it and forget it although I had some sort of leak on the 29er but once I hit it up with a powered pump everything was fine. same thing for the TNGA |

I'm running the 29er Arch rims.
With the UST Tire do you still run the Stan's fluid?
I figure that just adds more weight, but when I was riding CFiTT down in Florida, it was nice to see the Stan's fluid trickling out and sealing the holes when I pulled the Sand Spurs out of my Nanoraptors.

Same here. Double the stans in Banff, double the stans with new tires in Salida. |

So your experience with Caffe Latex is a good one...
Will you use that for TD? One of the reviews mentioned that CL didn't recommend adding Stan's on top of CL and I'm also wondering about availability of CL and Stan's along the route.
I like the foaming and non-ammonia aspects of CL though.
Thanks for posting the link... I hadn't heard of this stuff before now.

Yes I'll be using CL for the TDR in 2012; I haven't thought of the compatibility of it with Stan's. I'll have to check a few bike shops along the route to see if they carry CL. The tries that I'll be using(Geax Sagauros) are pretty durable and so far I had no flats with them. So I think I'll be good on one set of tires and CL to the finish.

SPOT GPS questions,
Do I need to purchase a SPOT for the TDR or is there a way to rent one?
If I need to buy one should I go with the SPOT I or SPOT II? (I think I still can find a SPOT I)
I've heard mixed reviews on the SPOT II - well I've heard mixed reviews on both, but most seem to like the original better.

I like the new spot II. It worked well for me. It is smaller/lighter. I turned it off when not moving to save batteries. OH yeah you can rent them from trackleaders/scott morris I think.
