Just saw that Robin Borstmayer scratched; bummer. He was doing great. Anybody know what happend to him? I rode with him a little on day two and ended up sharing a cabin in the Flathead section with him, Tim Z, Aaron W, Rich W and Eric F. We were all soaked to the bone and on the verge of hypothermia. A hunters cabin saved our tails.

Calls overnight: Chip Andrus called in from Ferndale. He got caught in a bad storm and had to go off route due to some downed trees. And Jarral Ryter called in from Deming. He sends out thanks and sounds executed to have finished!

I wondered the same thing yesterday. I went to his individual page and read a comment from his wife (?) that said he had ankle swelling that he could not get to come down. Comments also said he came further this year than the last TDR run he did and he did give some dotstalkers a good show in the days through Colorado. Good luck next time, Robin! |

There's plenty of riders still spinning out there tonight, as usual, especially 5 riders in the middle of the 100+ road ride through rez land south of Cuba.
Huge congrats to all riders who finished and given us exciting 'blue dot' views. The top 10 have given plenty of viewing, but I agree that the riders coming up in the next 5-10 are putting on a great show too. Katherine has shown her independant side, riding for days solo, now she's showing her 'grit', she's up early this am (GO, Katherine), riding up on Alberto, who has been amazing (to a non-biker) in pulling away from the other men in that section of road. I'm in awe of all these riders. I've followed Mike Intrabartola since he is 'family' and I know he has atheletic skills (ice hockey) and loves to ride. He and George Deck appear matched in a similar way as Ollie and Craig, consistency, pacing a similar ride and, I'm sure, some bonding, but yet they are riding their own ride for days. Amazing riders, all! |

I've really been inspired by all the gutty rides. I love the determination in the face of Mother Nature, human nature, and just plain old bad luck. Congratulations Ollie, Craig, Kurt, Garrett, Cjell, Serge, Jarral! Keep killing it Eszter! You're almost there! The stories have been motivational fodder as I log miles for an attempt next year. Fixie Dave and Cjell have me thinking about going NoBo. Thanks riders and blue dot junkies!

WTG Cjell! For fans of the 2011 snowpocalypse, our 2nd place female Tori Fahey is out on the route again, promising to up the fun factor for ride #2. Anyone have first hand knowledge of fellow Texan Billy Rice? He hasn't called in lately but is dutifully chuggin' along, putting in what look like some long solo efforts lately.  Esther looks to have not been slowed down much in the CDT alt, she's flying still with many hours in the saddle. WOW! For anyone wanting to follow Tori's humorous view of the event, this link helps, right from the starting "why" on they 17th... What a great mulch-nationality event. I enjoy reading how they are all solo racing yet riding together in spirit. Craig and Ollie catching a big hug at the last moment before Ollie flys off. Elena talking of the love and great respect for all riders.. Georg, Zohar and all, fantastic riding!

It looks like he was fine in Silverthorne. He is way off route at this point. He really booked it on that road up to 19mph but since he was just in Breck it makes no sense for him to high tail it to Fair Play...at least I can't think of a reason. It'll be interesting to see if he backtracks.
He unfortunately is behind where he expected to be, and doesn't have enough vacation time from work to complete the route. He has decided to switch over to the transamerica bike route and at least complete his goal of biking from Canada to Mexico! He'll try it again when he has more time!  |

Yeah, that was one hell of an impressive push. I'm looking forward to seeing if he can keep it up. Maybe he'll take a nap during the heat of the day. |

I went over and it man, there was some cool stuff in it and things I may use in my TD2013 setup (although I'm not going to be able to afford a rohloff anytime soon). According to the rules (as I read them), family and friends are prohibited from visiting with riders along the course -- am I wrong? I'm planning to ride the TD next year and I'm trying to get my mind around the rules.
We live right by Frisco. Considering we are some local spot stalkers that attempted to spot stalk him on his way through shouldn't be an issue. No assists. He definitely wanted to play by the rules considering the investment. Yes we know him but no prior arrangements had been made. With the 20min to 45 min updates on the map it wasn't easy! |
