Looks across the line from here.

Indeed the "race" is far from over, many still slogging it out and some (like Erick Lobeck) are yet to start.

No discredit to those who havent started yet, but from this end of the globe it does seem perplexing that others may start weeks later when conditions may have changed dramatically.

Different circumstances perhaps? Maybe they could only get time off work to start later?

Well done to Kurt! Super human effort and totally amazing that I can sit here in Oztralia and see it almost live!

Conditions this year were worse than we've seen in a while, and the route was modified for the circumstances.

However, you either start at the normal time and deal with a bit worse conditions in the North.  Or, start later and deal with the monsoon season in New Mexico and daily thunderstorm season in Colorado thru July and August!

Planned start dates, but with an 'open course'(my term)/ITT option are the future of mtb/backcountry racing.  Kinda like climbing Everest.  You have a window of opportunity, just pick when you want to do it.  No guarantee of how conditions will play out any time you do it or if you'll be able to complete the journey.

But, great job Kurt.

Jefe will be done soon and so should Pete, after he finishes his rest.

The race still goes on, and hopefully all that are on or will be on the course will see the completion of their journey!

Ride On Peeps!

Maybe one day I can become half the rider you all are!

And, I'm trying!  Hopefully we're all trying!

That's a good point.  Kurt was doing double centuries many days.  He went for a couple of days straight with no appreciable sleep on more than one occasion.  It looks like many do triple "metric" centuries over and over again - day after day after day.  And they do it over the craziest terrain on the planet ad the conditions are inhuman.  That stretch through NM may as well have been through a blast furnace.

What would it take to be HALF that good?  More than I have, I'm sure.

Man, Jefe must really be fighting to keep his eyes open at this point.  I must say, as a ss rider, I was pulling for Jefe.
Wondering if he would've rather run an 18t cog instead of the 19?
No matter - amazing ride by both K & J.

Looks like JB is going to roll across the line in a few short minutes now. Hooray for JB!

On the blue dots, looks like he'll scrape in just before PA.

Plenty more action to watch as the rest of the field battles it out. I'll be hanging out to catch Eric Lobeck's efforts in coming months, I'm sure he'll give it a pretty good crack.

There are a few of us waiting for Paul here in Banff - hoping to see him in the next couple of hours.  icon_biggrin

Cool & rainy here and fresh snow in the mountains.

Success to everyone else out there - ride strong and safe.

Now to watch all the others still going at it. Lots more to see in this year's extravaganza.

Jefe Branhams called in from Silver City. Obviously before they finished. No word since their finish but once they get back to maybe Deming or something we should hear from them.

You can get the audio here, via RSS,  or on iTunes!

Great Race!

I'll announce the winners of the Cordillera Winning Time contest on Monday.

Please don't forget that we have a matching donor for Cordillera V2 sales right now. http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,2179.msg21823.html#msg21823

I just have to say that the TD is one of the most impressive human spectacles out there! Reroutes, weather, tragedy, controversy... nothing can bring this race down.

Looks like Justin has finished the Union Pass section. Should be straight through to the finish now with detours to avoid.

1st NB has arrived in Banff.  Paul came in about an hour ago.  Looked good, met at the trail head by family and friends.  Sounds like he hadn't slept since Whitefish... WOW.
