The bunch has long since passed Butte, but none will forget what The Outdoorsman does to support Divide riders. Leipheimers know well the dedication required to podium in a Grand Tour.

Looks like Justin went to the Forestry dept and is now at Whiskey Mountain Tackle and Sports in Dubois, WY now.  Maybe he is looking for a better map of the area.  A restaurant and hotel are also nearby if he needs to recover and regroup for a second push.  GO JUSTIN!

I have had a bad spell with riders stopping. But Bob just left looking fit and clean. He accepted a Paulaner Lager. Hopefully not on the banned list.

I don't want to hijack the thread again but I just have to share this:    24 copies of the Cordillera sold last night!

We are closing in on $2,000 going directly to Linnaea Blumenthal's 529 college savings plan.

The book is truly worth buying for its own entertainment value but supporting Dave's daughter feels great too.

Eric

Just received my copy in the mail today.

There is a restaurant that serves MASSIVE steak dinners at the end of the steep climb/beginning of Union Pass road that may/may not be open. If it's not he has a downhill run to the hwy where there are a few stores. Hope he's ok.
Looks like Justin Simoni made it back to the grid. Hope he gets a good steak dinner while he plans his next move. Can't wait to hear/see. Whatever his decision, I'm pulling for him! Go Justin!

If we are going to start giving restaurant reviews I'll add one.  Avoid The Three Bs in Grants.  My son's tomato soup looked like it had previously been rejected by someone else's body.  My steak?  I won't go there.

You have been warned.

Stay healthy.

Just saw on Justin's twitter account:

Will try Union Pass again tomorrow. Too much snow to cross safely without a topo map! Never give up Tour Dividers!"

Glad to see he's safe...looks like he had quite the adventure out there.

Down to the wire now and I gotta say I'm in Jefe's corner, SS win on the TD would be epic10.  Too bad it looks like Kurt is already starting to gap him!  Either way, friggin' rad rides from both!

Thanks for the update...that's what I thought.  Flat wide-open high plateau terrain + lots of snow + ACA Maps with not enough topo detail + first time in the area + no trees to visibly distinguish road swath = "which way do I go".  Very nice display of calm thinking to go WAY, WAY BACK DOWN to Dubois to get detailed topo maps, refuel, rest, try again next day.  Now that's level-headed, common-sense, wilderness approach.

I would also like to nominate Norb DeKerchove and Lukas Aufschlager for the sportsperson's award for blowing the turn on highway 191, riding the pavement, turning around, and riding the mud/cowtrail to get to back to 191 to Cora, class acts!

It's tough to know which is better: the two leaders duking it out, or Justin's cool head to hang tough and do the TD successfully without re-routes. My hat's off to them all!

With temperatures in NM pushing the mid-nineties, the heat has to be a factor for a possible near-photo finish (by Divide standards, anyway).

Wow! Going to give Union Pass a second go...in those conditions - that is epic!

Hope he has a compass to go with the topomap.

Going to be fascinating to see how much time Jefe and Kurt spend in Silver City.

headbang   An epic TD and an Epic TD thread    headbang

In celebration the Cordillera is having a contest!

Prizes for whoever can best predict the winner's final time.

1st Prize: Ride the Divide DVD (http://www.ridethedividemovie.com/)
2nd Prize: Ride the Divide T-Shirt (Large)
3rd Prize: Collectors Edition of the Cordillera Volume 1*

Rules (Very important, please read them all):

1) In order to play you must have ordered (or at least promise to order) a copy of the Cordillera Volume 2.
2) Contest entry window starts now and ends when the first rider reaches Silver City.
3) Entries must be emailed to thecordillera@gmail.com and be received before the first rider reaches Silver City. Please put your projected finish time in the subject of your submission email using this format:  Days:Hours:Minutes
4) Trash talking and subterfuge in the forum is encouraged but please don't clutter it up with simple time submissions; they don't count unless it's been sent to the email in rule #3.
5) Times are determined by Trackleaders and TD results but in the end I'm calling it the best I can, especially in respect to when the riders reach Silver City.
6) In the event of a tie the entry received first will prevail.
7) I'm paying all shipping and have absolutely no intention of reporting any of this to the IRS or state gaming officials  glasses2

A big thanks to Mike Dion and Hunter Weeks who donated the movie prizes above to support Cordillera Volume 2 sales.

Remember, in order to be eligible you must have ordered (or promise to order) a copy of Volume 2. Buy the book here (all proceeds benefit the daughter of fallen TD racer Dave Blumenthal):  https://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/the-cordillera/15659154

*By collectors edition I mean a misprint that resulted in an extra-large copy of the book. It's kind of cool though.

I have a question for Eric or anybody. I have seen others ask, yet never a complete answer. Do we know the altered final mileage, once alternate routes were put into play??? I realize that at this point the finish time is much more about strength, perseverance, heart, and maybe a little bit if risk stupidity- yet it would still help those of us fairly new tour dividians, if the final mileage is different from 2,745. Thanks for any help anyone can offer! It's kind of hard to commit to a time when you dont even want to commit to a winner. These guys are INCREDIBLE athletes and by all accounts quite nice guys as well! Still, I figure I'll take a stab at it-it is the only way I will ever come close to "winning" something associated with thus amazing event! I am truly in AWE of every man and woman out there, and although there is only one Maize jersey - this feat goes way beyond winning!

Ok, back to my original question - anyone have an approximation on the final mileage???

Really nice guys I would second.

Rob Colliver is staying tonight, now he did have a beer, but he is English so fully aware of the importance of proper rehydration.

We have increased in temperature about 50 degrees from Monday. Not sure what is worse.

I would like to throw something out, struck me that a Cyclocross Bike would be best for this route, comments, thoughts?
