Thanks to the riders and thanks to all contributors - this is a great source of inspiration just reading about their feats and following their spot-tracks
There's a quite a number of Europeans in the race - awesome

Hi y'all,

Wife of JP Evans (Texas) here.  I went to Banff to see JP start his big adventure and I got some pix of riders.  I don't think I got everyone but I've posted the ones I did get.  I included even those shots that are not in good focus because it might be the only thing someone has of their friend or family.  Please feel free to download them for personal use.

I hope y'all enjoy seeing them!!

Yes, pictures are the reflection of the mind's eye. Glad to see how things are unfolding out there.

way to soon, 1 day of mud and the top 3 could be part of the top 8 etc etc
EP and JB have done more than the CTR bty, anyway just way to soon

best of luck to all still going etc

Sorry, I'm primarily familiar with them through that race. I think it will serve them well. High elevation and 500mi gives them a tremendous amount of experience. Of course, the CTR has a lot more singletrack by comparison.

Water is crazy high here in Western Montana. Some near record levels. Had to turn around about 20 miles down Rock Creek yesterday. Hope everyone is being safe.

Weird weather also. Thick black cloud intermittent with blue skies. One of those days that if it was sunny, you were getting rained on. (KR, JB, & EP were about 25mi NE of me, with wind out of the SE.)

On the bright side, the forecast for that tire-eating, clay-mud stretch btwn Bannack and Lima is looking promising right now for the front pack.

Jefe Branham called in from Lincoln late last night. He reports an encounter with a mountain lion that luckily moved along. Paul Jobling called in from Whitefish. He had a 30mi hike-a-bike due to a mechanical but hopes to have it fixed today. And Russ McBride called in from Cuba This morning. He’s with Paul and Franck conducting group therapy!

But why does the tracker say, that he's going backwards to cuba right now? Something forgotten in the therapy-room?

seems like he must really have forgotten something !
about the "group therapy" you would have thought that with all those crazy days , biking in brutal heat,  the fires smoke and the freaking hours on the saddle .....the testosterone level would be lower :-) !

Those leaving Cuba will get their first taste of above 10K elevation today.  It is all up hill until you see the park like areas to the right of the trail.  The trail is FS road and the treed area between the road and park like area is the ridge.  It is a great grouse hunting area.  We used to go up there from Los Alamos when we couldn't get high enough in the Los Alamos area.  I saw a Mt Lion up there once.  It was a typical sighting, crossing the road at dusk.  Following these guys through NM makes me very homesick.

And here I thought that the TD was a race--and an ITT at that! Wink While meeting good people on the trail and riding together when speeds and personalities are compatible is definitely a bonus, I think it's weird that these guys are trying to stay together despite apparently not getting along all that well.

Just got a brief email from Justin Simoni, he sounded happy, lots of  icon_biggrin in his message.  He's in Eureka right now.  Didn't say anything about conditions but I'm glad to hear from him and know he's okay.  Met him in Banff, what a nice guy!

I've never met him, but I really admire his effort to take the road less traveled. A true adventurer at heart!

Does anyone have the total mileage now for Sobo?  Seems like Scotts gpx file had something less than 2,700?

Any word on if Justin Simoni plans to go up the whitefish divide to red meadow lake?

Guess we will know in a bit!

Got to love his spirit!

Kurt Refsnider called in from Birdseye. Russ McBride called in from the trail where he’d broken a pedal. He managed to find a shop with an on flat one he’s hoping holds up until he gets a replacement. Justin Simoni called in from Eureka. He recounts quite an experience riding the Flathead. And Paul Spencer called in from Lincoln. He’s having Spot issues.
