Whats the earliest in the season one could reasonably do this route? I'm trying to plan my spring of bikepacking before I start residency in June and hoping to ITT this in early April if there is a reasonable chance of the route being snow free

No snow in Central Oregon this year.  Possible to ride it even now.

If anyone wants to use a spot tracker so family and friends can see your progress, here is the track leaders sign up. They even rent spots trackers out. http://trackleaders.com/oregonoutback-signup

Bummer.  Some people made poor life choices that are now deeply linked and associated with the event/name/ride/route.

Still a worthwhile route to experience, I believe.  For some reason, I never thought a Grand Depart-style event was suited for this route.  Not sure why.  Hindsight 20/20, I know.  If I ever bikepack through Silver Lake, hope I don't get treated with guilt-by-association and distrust, but wouldn't blame the locals if they acted as such.

That's a huge bummer and shame on those responsible for literally shitting on the event and the reputation of bike tourists/packers in general. I was keen to get down there next year to have a go at this one after being stoked on all the reports of positive vibes, fun route, etc in last years inaugural running .. Might need a year to cool off as Mike points out the guilty by association is not something I'd want to be part of.
