Jesse's wife is missing:

http://gazette.com/search-continues-for-36-year-old-cyclist-who-went-missing-sunday/article/1507004

I'm trying to find out if SAR needs riders, and where we should go. Anyone know who might be coordinating the search? I imagine that a bunch of us could be very helpful at the moment, especially if someone can help us search in an organized fashion.

I'll post more if I hear anything.

Someone posted a note on MTBR.com (Colorado Front Range forum) saying that they have contacted S&R, and that they don't need additional resources right now. I hate sitting on my hands, but they also probably don't want 200 riders adding to the chaos. I sure would like it if a bunch of experienced bikepackers were out looking for me or my wife in a similar situation though, so I'm torn.

I hope she is safe and found quickly!  Thoughts and prayers for her and her family.

Toby - thanks and let us know if you find anything else out and what assistance we can provide.

I just checked the El Paso County S&R site, http://www.epcsar.org/

They make it pretty clear that they don't want or need additional riders volunteering at this point. They are concerned that having too many people out there will confuse their dogs and trackers.

Really tough to just sit and watch. But getting in the way is bad too. Frustrating.

My wife and I both often ride alone, so this really hits home. We always take a Spot, but it is no guarantee of safety. I can't imagine how stressed Jesse must feel right now. I hope that S&R is doing the right thing by turning down all of the help that's been offered...

Hoping for the best.

That is great news.

It really is food for thought, about how much solo riding you do and the SOPs you initiate at home, when there is a fail to return.

The odds are against us - tiredness/fatigue, marginal riding conditions (weather) challenging riding conditions (terrain)...but why do these odds seem to make it more enjoyable...it really is a sick and twisted pasttime Smiley
