I'll start, as Le Tour is a bit boring right now  thumbsup

Only possible change coming is tires....and that will happen only if they arrive prior to next weekend.

Might go a little bigger on the tires, possible 25cc instead of the 23cc shown here.

replace Judy with Walt Rigid fork...
replace 34t chainring with 32t chainring
replace 20t cog with 22t cog
replace worn rubber with two new racing ralphs
(and remove mosquito netting and bear spray from packs)...

and here you have it....

Sweet, guys.

Word on the street is you might want to leave the mosquito netting in this year...  Lookin' forward to seeing all the peeps and rigs at the start.

I like the open basket on DH's rig - easy to get stuff out quickly that way.  Looks like it will drain well too during a downpour.

I think I'm done messing around.  Here is what you will see me with on Aug.2

All packed up and verified as 32 pounds even on a scale.  In the handle bar bag is my sleeping bag, pad and bivy.  In the very poorly made frame bag is a spare tube and tool kit.  On the trail the top will hold a 100 oz bladder to keep weight off my back.  Saddle bag has rain pants, extra long sleeve and short sleeve jersey, spare shorts, nylon shorts, spare socks and gloves.

See you on Monday

I've been plotting and planning for this since May but it took me till the weekend before to get it all together.  2 years of lurking forums and adding my own twist added up to this:

<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From Random bike stuff</td></tr></table>

Bike is 28.2lbs exactly as it sits.  Not sure I'll be needing all 6" of travel when I crawl across the state at a hypoxic snail's pace but it should get the job done.  The full susp doesn't leave too much room to strap things to my frame so the rest gets stuffed into my pack.  I whittled it down to 5.3 lbs with the neurotic help of a fully itemized excel spreadsheet and a lot of optimism!

Hopefully I'll have fun out there and make it back to work by Monday!

5.3 lbs?!  Sick!  My Chipotle burrito weighed more than that at the start last year...

ya but you only have one gear!  That seems way more hard core then sleeping on a poptart wrapper.

I am going without a sleeping pad as well.  Through my testing, I found that I do not need it.....as I sleep directly on my back or stomach.  Kind'a the cool thing about this race/ride/tour....everyone has their own way of getting from Point A to Point B.

Good to see I am not the only person lining up with SRAM XX  headbang

The 6 in. of travel may seem like a lot, but I am running 120mm up front and 110 in the rear......good for mowing shit over on the trail  icon_biggrin

Ha, that proves it! Owen is an alien, something that I always suspected. Unlike earthlings, he generates his own Oxygen when operating above 9,000 feet. While he can subsist on lichen as an energy source, his "tires" harvests radioactive isotopes from the rockiest sections of the trail--which he then uses to recharge his secret weapon: a nuclear reactor in his left earlobe.

The only remaining question is whether any of his brethren were beamed to Earth for the CTR 2010. I suspect that we'll know shortly...

I recognize my own shortcomings.

murphyo - that's right, sleep. and unlike DaveH from last year, I'll be sleeping with earplugs and a sign asking all riders passing me to respect quiet hours. besides, you'll be miles (and miles and miles) ahead of me...

my goodness.  no sleeping pads is half a step from no sleeping.  I had a really bad night in a snow cave sans sleeping pad a few years back.  I'm too old to make those kinds of sacrifices when on holiday now.

I hear ya.  It won't be dry this year and sleeping pads are pretty good insulation.  3.5 oz is not that much sacrifice anyway!  The weight of a few sips of water is all...
