It was added to the official route (TourDivide only) for this year.  I haven't heard any good comments from fully loaded racers.

Who else racing the route has ridden it so far? It was still partially hidden under snow when most Southbounders went through in June, so it unfortunately wasn't used in this year's TD.

Yes, no fun on a loaded bike, I'm sure it would have been a blast on an unloaded bike.

I rode Gold Dust a few weeks ago and it's an OK trail.  Couple fun sections.  I couldn't help wondering though, why it was added?  It is a little rough for a loaded bike and pretty inconsistent with the rest of the route.  There are so many places in CO where more mtn bike like trails could be substituted for the GD route, so why not them?

Just through Frisco and Breck alone you could ride almost all dirt.  I don't think that's what the Divide route is though, so I'm kinda wondering what the story is behind the addition of Gold Dust?

Love the trippy background music at the beginning of JayP's Breck call.  Reminds me of many long hikes and bikes where I wasn't getting enough water.

Have I missed some setup thing on my computer, but it seems I only get one update every day from Scott - is everybody else the same?

Looks like JP got some rest at Hopwell Lk, most likely the picnic shelter, and is well on his way to waking up the dogs in Vallecitos.

"rest" meaning +/- 4hrs

Is it just me, or did anyone else find yesterday's ride by JP impressive?  18 hrs of effort, going from Del Norte to Hopwell Lake, which includes Indiana Pass, the 2 passes South of that, plus the Brazos. Nice!

I think JP's effort is totally mind blowing! What an animal! Everyday I look at the leaderboard to see where he is and it just amazes me that he can ride so far every day. He's killing it!

Keep it up JP!!!  headbang

yes, that is a nice haul, but for the record, Blaine Nester, quite a few years his senior did the same thing last year! As for JP's current run, there seems to be some moisture around in New Mexico if I turn the radar on (hurricane induced?). I hope that goes away before he gets to the "impassable when wet" zones further south around Pie Town and in the Gila. I got stuck in the mud in the Gila last year. Slow, tiring,  and not fun.

I'm guessing he's dealing with mud right now.  Judging by the last call in and the spot dot.
Bummer.

I know about those New Mexico Blues, and I'm not talking about the Tortilla chips. Jay's gonna pull through - it's funny sometimes to listen back at your own wavering voice when hit with that sort of fatigue and realize how out of your mind you really were (listening to the Del Norte check-in). GO JAY! Pie at Pie Town is going to taste so delicious.

Must've been the kind of mud that makes a rider go faster, not slower, 'cuz JP's "splits" from Abiquiu -> Cuba -> Pie Town were pretty darn fast.

Yeah, there was a block of about 8 hours where the Trackleaders site wasn't updating, so we were just speculating, but apparently he moving pretty good.

Just talked to Jay in Silver. He was partying down at Mickey D's. He says he's wearing his full rain gear kit for warmth. It's been very cool. "Two water bottles between resupply points", he described. He's poised to finish and head on over to Vegas for Interbike.
