The Kemo 172? If so, how did you deal with the ground wire [schematic shows a ground wire going to the frame]? I didn't think the SP-8 was grounded...

Yes the 172.  bigger than i'd hoped but it works. There's two different wiring methods shown on the instructions.

I just joined the the earth/ground cables together. One from the light, one from the hub and the other to the frame connector on the unit.

Have you experienced any high-speed cutout? I ask because their web site mentions it.
And what does the USB connector look like? The standard USB A receptacle?
In the middle of typing this I searched the web and now realize that there is a M172N model which might be differnt than the original 172 you might have.

Sorry it's the 172n. Not noticed any high speed cutout yet. Although maybe haven't been faster than 30kph yet. It says in the booklet that its max output is 800ma so I'd hope not.

The iPhone can get confused and briefly not recognise the charger if you hover round 6-10kph.

I'll be subjecting it to a good deal of abuse prior to the HT550 this year so will be happy to report back and answer any questions in the mean time

Ianfitz,
Sorry to keep asking questions about the 172N, but is the case sealed/potted shut or can it be opened [screws?]...? I've checked out the Kemo web site and can't tell from the photos. I'd like to modify the 172N and need to be able to access the circuitry without damaging it...

Not a problem. I've had much advice from forums over the years and am happy to be able to give a little of that back.

It's screwed shut but is designed to be unscrewed by the user. In fact it's necessary to unscrew it in order to wire it up in the first place. I can take a photo of the internals if that would be helpful?

I hope I'm not waking the dead here, but I was wondering if anyone had the schematics on how to wire a dynamo hub to the kemo m172n. I'm using an SP hub but any hub without a ground would do
