The Dixie Trackleaders tracker is all set http://trackleaders.com/dixie16

A dozen riders so far, and 3 women! The Dixie hasn't seen a female competitor since Eszter Horanyi in 2011.

About her ride that year...we had something like 400% normal snowpack the previous winter so I had to cut out the Markagunt (VRRT, Brian Head area), it was still under 6 feet of snow. Eszter was the ONLY rider in the 12 person field to finish that year.

You could interpret that many ways, my version is watch yer back guys Wink

Since it was a different route in 2011, the female record is up for grabs this year.

I am still hoping (but also doubting) I'll be able to make it this year.  Might not know until Thursday when I start driving, or not...   I have my own tracker but it doesn't sound like I would be able to add myself to Trackleaders that late?

Sounds like a decent field again this year.  It also looks like warm temps again, getting hotter as the weekend progresses.

If I can't make it this weekend hopefully an ITT in September.

I'm pretty sure Scott can add you to the tracker if you've got your own SPOT, but you'll have to ask him.

Weather actually looks a good bit cooler than the last 2 years! Not for long though, a 3 day pace will see a hot 3rd day.

Just registered. Felt the "jones" after following the TDR and felt left out. Look forward to exploring an area I know little about. Understand there is a bit of climbing? Anyone have any beta on water sources...Jeff Taylor

I am out this year, but just wanted to say good luck to everyone.  With Spruces Trail getting some maintenance last year, it should be smooth sailing!  This is an amazing route with many surprises.  Don't let the mileage fool you!

A few things from last year that might be useful-

The water spigot that worked last year at the park off Bryce Woodland Drive is actually inside the park (it is not the spigot that is right along Bryce Woodland Drive. That one was dry.)

The Quality Inn Bryce Canyon at 3800 US-89, Panguitch, UT 84759 allowed us to eat breakfast for 10 bucks last year.  It was all you can eat. A great option if you descend Thunder Mountain in the morning and are coming through that part of the route between 7 to 11 am or so.

I wish I could be out there and I'm very excited to watch this year's crew take on the route. You are in for a challenging and very fun time!

As for water, only place I got a little dry was after the excellent trail-side spring on the Grandview. That one is a very convenient and delicious resupply, but I had to ration after that until I finally found some good tire-rut water several hours later.

The water spigot that worked last year at the park off Bryce Woodland Drive is actually inside the park (it is not the spigot that is right along Bryce Woodland Drive. That one was dry.)

I got this one to work with the help of a friendly local. I was giving up and walking away when a man cruised up on an ATV and told me to "hold the handle up and wait." After maybe 20-30 seconds it came gushing out like Old Faithful.

Good luck everyone! Have fun on Dark Hollow!

I have been sicker than hell for the past week and  sadly will not start tomorrow.  Well i could start but pretty sure it would turn into a scratch pretty quickly.  I just walked to the store to get some more DayQuil and my lungs literally hurt. I will make an ITT run here soon.  Good luck, ride fast and take chances.  I am bummed, I was really looking forward to coming down and racing with everyone.

Have fun out there, everyone! I had the pleasure of riding (leisurely) most all of Dave's Dixie routes a few years back, and dang he did an admirable job of connecting some amazing places with a lot of primo dirt (and a bit of less-than-stellar rough trail, but hey, that's the nature of this). You're all in for a real treat!

I will be at the start this evening around 7:30. Look for a sweet 25' RV Wink

I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone, old friends and new.

Pro tip: put a couple beers in a net bag in the creek and they will be oh so cool when you finish.

FYI: the camp area is roughly 1/2 mile up the route. That is also where we'll start.

Thanks for the info Dave!

Couldn't agree more, just got to Brian Head, this is going to be an incredible weekend.

Just a heads up, I drove up 2nd left hand canyon for a few minutes not sure if I made it a full half mile because the creek washed out the road a bit. Shouldn't be an issue to cross at all with 4 wheel drive but I decided to not risk it in the rental sedan. I'll be stopping by this evening to meet everyone and pick up the spot.

Thanks again!

Well, I am sitting at work right now rather than driving to Utah so I guess I am out for this year.

Perhaps an ITT later or this fall.  Dave, are current temps fairly consistent with those over the summer or does it get a lot hotter in July/Aug?  Maybe I will luck out with a cool stretch.

Good luck to all the riders!

It gets a LOT warmer than it currently is. When it is 110 in St George that's about as warm as it normally gets. The bigger issue in the summer is monsoonal moisture. The Dixie does not do well in the wet. Summer solstice so far has been dry, knock wood.

If the creek crossing is washed out I will probably be camping near the hwy since the RV won't make it. Will see when I get there...I'll ride my bike to camp if I have to Wink

I wish I was there as a dot instead of watching them this year. The IT band issue that scratched me 2 years ago has reared it's ugly head again this spring, so I chose not to risk it and make it worse this year. I'm hoping to do an ITT later this year and put together a Wasatch route that I've been looking at for a while...

I bailed, couldn't take any more tree hopping.
I have a room at the Rodeway if anybody wants to crash.

I've been off the grid since the start...just checking in and wow - it appears we have a new course record!

Adam Blanchard and Ian Housman are both shown as finishing in 1:12:54 and 1:12:58, respectively. Both of those times are faster than Steve Cook's ride in 2014. I look forward to the gory details Wink

With the cooler spring and late snowmelt, there are still a good number of trees down on the trails, and even a little snow remains at the highest points. The course is probably slower than it has been the past few years, making Adam and Ian's times all the more impressive.

Great riding guys!

This is extremely impressive, well done Ian and Adam and all finishers!  I was out Friday, never managed to get my tracker working due to incompetence. The setting of this course is incredible, got a feeling I'll be back to give it another go. Maybe spend a few days up at elevation ahead of time and practice tree hoping in the meantime.

Thanks again
