4 days seems reasonable for tour pace and no night riding - but I wouldn't pin hopes for an easyish final day too tightly. The final ~20 miles have challenging terrain.

If you did any night riding the section to do it is from the bottom of Thunder Mtn to near Panguitch Lake. Camping near Panguitch Lake would set you up for a *shortish* final day.

yeah, my hope is that we can do 55-60 miles a day. That would get s to Panguitch.

On a slightly related note. Any singlespeeders out there? Starting to think about gearing. Thinking 32x21 and possibly even 32x22.

Count me as a maybe for the 4-day tour pace Jeff. Let's see how my wrist heals the next month or so, then I should probably get a few rides on the legs!!!

Four days should be a nice ride. we did the Lite in October in 3 days as a tour.
You'll have your work cut out for you on a singlespeed. I ride almost all singlespeed, but this is one of those times I throw the 1x10 on my bike. I considered doing it on the ss last year and was going to use the 22.

Dave, just a reminder to remind me if you think this is important - I noticed a few water sources last year not on your waypoints and one water source that was on your waypoints that I could not find. I will dig through my old GPX files and send to you if you would like.

Super stoked there will be a solid group at the start this year.  I will be in the back of the pack as usual.  My socks are getting red just thinking about riding the Dixie again!

I think there are adequate water waypoints mentioned, so no need for more *official* waypoints. Feel free to share those here if you like.

I would like to know about any route discrepancies found, such as the water source you could not find. I also recall a spot on Harris rim that needs a little touch up - does that ring any bells?

Red dirt is here aplenty already, spring arrived in Feb!

Hey Dave,

I lost my Dakota 20 last Sept on the Colorado Trail.  So I have to get a new GPS.  Where can I get the track information to download the track for the ride in June?  I will get some help from my daughter loading this on to a GPS.

I think weather will be stellar then and have long glorious days.  Looking forward to it.  Have plenty of time to train.

Thank you,

Brad

Brad -

Go to the event website at http://2-epic.com/events/dixie200.html, scroll down to 2013. All the files are linked there.

Glad you'll make it!

Pulling my name out of the hat this year. My schedule if full with my quest to complete all 5 California bikepacking races. Hope to line up for the Dixie next year!
I'll be following all your dots  this year. Good luck to all!

Is this an organized (underground) ride/race? Id love to try it out. Is it just a suggested route or an event?

hmmm tough questions you ask.

Organized? We are meeting Friday, June 19 7am. That's the extent of the organization Wink

It is not underground. Some (older) info on the event is at the event site linked 2 posts up, the tracks listed for 2013 are current. Lots of info here on bp.net forums also, just search on dixie.

n8 you are welcome to join the fun! It's a super route with a good balance of most everything packed into 2 days of riding with heavy emphasis on scenery.

Anybody know the status of the Dixie 311?  It's not on Scott's calendar, but is listed on the Dixie website as starting June 28.

n8 - We meet right at the beginning of the route, roughly 4 miles outside of Parowan, UT. Drive-in access & good creekside camping. We've been arriving the evening before the last couple years.

Rick - the 311 is in permanent ITT status, meaning no group starts. Great route tho if you like to get "out there" and don't have groomed trails at the top of your list;)

After checking work schedules for June it doesn't look like I can make the group start this year.  I think I will end up doing the ITT thing starting on June 20 in the evening or possibly the following Sunday morning.  In other news; I found myself driving through Long Valley Junction the other day for work, Tod's is still there and it's still awesome.  Get pumped everyone, only 6 weeks away!

I am still in thumbsup  Sounds like there will be a larger group than last year, but not much larger.  A low key group of riders with real mountain biking trails and epic scenery.  It does not get any better than that.

My only 2 cents of advice- if you are riding tubeless, bring TWO tubes.  The trails made shreds of one of my brand new tubeless tires last year and I only had one tube.  If I had sidewall flatted my other tire, I would have been up sh#t creek!

I'm trying to do some route research but my tech skills are failing me.

On the 2-epic site.... I am not seeing the route track on the map.... am I missing something? I also tried loading the large gpx file into Google Earth and it seems to load and zooms in on the area of the route, but I don't get a track or anything. Plus it just has tons of other noise on there, pics & places, etc...

Can someone point me to the best way to see this route on the map?

I'm dealing with a flare-up of a recurring back issue, but assuming I get through the Gunnison Growler next weekend without a setback then I am pretty sure I am in for the group start.

Friday 7am works fine for me too.
