In the event of rain, which sections of this route contain the most death-mud?
The part in Utah Wink

Historically summer solstice is quite dry, so that's not likely to be an issue. Normally you can sit out a intermittent storm for an hour and the trail will dry, but a big widespread storm is a game ender. That's what I encountered the first year I attempted my Trans Utah route. Hence, no more October dates Wink

I have word from Scott (who is traveling around the PNW) and he will setup a tracker for Dixie sometime in the next week. Once that is setup there should be a way to sign up for the SPOTs.

Thanks for the onsite report Mike. How high did you get? (um elevation I mean) I think there is still some snow in the highest spots.

It was a mellow trip with a lady friend, we didn't get out on any of the "sporty" sections of the route.  From White Point on Thunder Mountain we could see snow to the south that I would assume was Brian Head.

How dependent on GPS do you need to be for this route (assuming you've never laid eyes on it)? I have the Nat'l Geo Trails illustrated maps to cover the route...but clearly I couldn't use those 100%. I have an old GPS rig that is slow to pan, zoom, load, etc...and chews through batteries.

Wondering if I should buy a new unit, or if I could get by with just referencing mine when needed (which is what I've done on the CT - but of course that route is pretty easy to follow) and not have it following the track all day long.

GPS is definitely required. Without it you'd be out for a fun adventure...and spend a lot of time route finding.

SPOT tracking is ON for Dixie. The Gen3 SPOTs are available but Scott asks that you return them asap after the event because they are needed at the Hardrock 100.

One of my favorite things to do - sign up on trackleaders! I'm official.

Hey, one question: if you don't make it to Tod's in time, can you get water from the Sevier River where it crosses the route (after turning right off HWY 89 north of the store)?

Is the Delorme Inreach not supported for events like Dixie?  Pretty sure Scott mentioned in a forum thread that they were, but do not see it on the signup form.  (Or is there a further or alternate form to sign up for that?)

You're in, cool! Yep, there is always water in the Sevier. I'd consider that a last resort option though. Erin reports a park water spigot in Bryce Woodlands which is about an hour (maybe less) past Tod's. Look back in this thread for the location. <cya>I have not seen it before, but haven't looked either</cya>

Good question. I know they've connected them in the past but don't know anything about current support. Scott is the guy to answer that one, hit him directly at smorris at topofusion.com.

FYI Bluedot only supports SPOT devices.

Thanks Dave.  Got an answer back from Scott already.  He said - in the signup form, just fill in the 'mapshare' link instead of a spot share page link, ESN field not really needed so just fill in "1234" or whatever.

7am has been mentioned a few times throughout this forum but I want to verify it's the correct start time.

6 am would improve odds of getting to Tod's before closing, if anyone's interested.

I made Todds easily last year with the 7a start and I am not sure I am racing as I don't have a bike yet, it's on it's way, but 6 would improve odds

I filled up here a couple years ago. Nice large park on the left and the spigot is right on the road.

Not in this year but will watch the action. It is a fantastic route.

In regards to the start time, it is currently Friday June 19 7 am. extra redundancy so as to be clear....We can start at any time you like. My preference is to vote on the start time Thursday eve in camp just so those not following along here don't miss it.

How does that sound?
