Also... yeah: Buff Creek-area trails would be a bummer to ride when wet - perhaps just because they're local trails to me. A lot of the more alpine trails have good drainage, and much different "soil". I didn't see anything I would call, "damaged" on the CT between Mt. Elbert Trailhead and Twin Lakes. Some of the creek crossings were a little muddy, and you can see tire marks coming/going in them.

Twin Lakes has a general store, open till 8pm. It's food selection is limited to snacks and caffeinated beverages. A food truck from Punkys in BV is open for business next door in what looks like a trail angel's place - lots of thru hikers sleeping in the front yard!

There's a funky gas station just S. of the highschool. That's probably your best bet. That should allow you to resup enough to get to Copper.

Farmers Korner Market & Gas Inc
16115 CO-9
Breckenridge, CO 80424
(970) 453-2281

There's also,

Bunk House
13203 CO-9
Breckenridge, CO 80424
(970) 453-6475

But my google map-fu is failing on me. Streetview isn't very telling if either of those are the ones i"m thinking of. It cuts from winter to summer as you move through it!

I would get outta Summit County as quick as you can - it's a time burner. Leadville is a good resup, with a grocery right on route. Copper should have all ya need for food.

Hey Y'all-  Myself and a buddy are in on this years CTR and coming from Montana.  Anyone got room for two dudes and their bikes, leaving from Grand Junction, going to Durango, on Saturday the 25th? Will fill up all tanks of gas en route if you can spare the room!   Thanks !!Mike

Matt,
If you are NOBO there's a Copper Mtn. option which is before Tenmile. There's well stocked convenience store at the main ski area plaza [the CT literally routes right past the plaza]. I'm pretty sure that store closes at 8PM. Also, I've dropped into Endo's, [lunch and dinner] which is also in the plaza. Nice restrooms to tidy up in and their Adrenalin burger is to die for.

Here's a dumb question:
When I rode through Princeton Hot Springs a few weeks ago, I forgot to stop and check out the food there. Is the store that little building inside the fenced pool area? Or is it somewhere else in the complex?

There's quite a nice little store at Mt. P. It's the building with the gas pumps. I came out of that store with burritos and toffee. You can also take a nice $5 shower at the hot springs.

So in looking at Toby's race track on the CTR site I see there is also a track for a Leadville detour. What's the deal for this year? Optional detour or are we to follow the older route thru town? I can't seem to dig up any past info on the detour.

Same deal as the last 2 years.  Going into Leadville is now optional. If you don't need resupply, you can just bypass the town and save a couple miles.

Quick question for the GPS savvy.
How do I get the little indicator flags on my track? The pictures below...
1) off basecamp on my mac (shows flags)
2) etrex 20 (backup GPS, shows flags) and Dakota 20 (main GPS, doesn't show flags). Same base map and exact same track.
Thanks!
Adam.

Yeah, but you miss out on the awesome Southwestern burritos at City on the Hill Coffee and a chance to raise our caffeine level. The uber-fast won't take the time to stop, but the counter ordering is fast and they are friendly...

I don't own that GPS but the flags are not actually part of the track. They are waypoints. Check your menus for stored waypoints and see if they are saved in your GPS. There should be a setting that allows you to see the stored waypoints on the map.

Do you have to enable them for the track?  I'm sure they uploaded to the device fine since the etrex shows them, but I'm wondering if you have to specifically ask the Dakota to show them.  Did you ask the google machine?

Good luck.

Don't stop at the Golden Burro! They are not biker friendly and have a huge sign up that says "no bike shoes because it destroys our carpet." It's in the center of town in Leadville.

the reason I asked is because someone told me there was a gas station real close to the ct in breck but its not listed

I'm still trying to figure out a shuttle. I thought I had it solved by a friend in Denver but he's not available. I could be there a few days early. I'd be up for sharing a ride back to Durango in a rental car either before or after the race. Before is probably better since I don't have a clue how fast I can get through this

None that I personally know of - I was just in Summit (and in Frisco, in fact), but didn't venture on HW9 to do some direct recon. Also forgot that the race is going from Durango to Denver this year! Yikes, that makes resup after 10 Mile kind of annoying, as you don't wanna schlep too much over 10 Mile, if you can help it, and you'll need a lot of food, if you're not planning to stop somewhere on Tarryall. Breck has a City Market (or King Soopers) approx.  but it is an extra 4 or so miles.

Maybe someone form 2013 can chime in w/their strategies from that year. I raced that year, but I went from Denver -> Durango.

I don't think I understand which route you take to bypass Leadville.  Is there a map?

Here is a link to a GPX file I made from Toby's and modified it with the start from Velorution Cycles to the trail head and also included the Leadville bypass. Use at your own risk Smiley
If you use http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ the added tracks are in red

Thanks guys. I messed around with it for a while last night and spent some time reading the google to no avail, I couldn't really figure it out. That's all right though, it works, I can follow a pink line. Too many other things to do getting ready for this thing!
