Id like to trash talk too. But if I show up, Ill prob get trashed and oversleep.

On a positive NOTE: never thought Id say this this year but it is actually drying up around Molas pass. Saturday was super soupy for CTC 2015. Yesterday, I was surprised that the track had dried up dramatically. This was only a short section but it cheered me up!

Saw two "ITTers" about 5 miles from Molas pass/550. They had been riding for three days already from DRO. They looked beat down and looked like they were carrying lots of stuff.

At least they should have made silverton for a hot meal!

Good luck all!

Stefan,  I signed up and paid my private spot but it never asked for my ESN or shared page URL.  I sent an email to Scott which bumped me to Matthew Lee so I sent it to him too.  Can you help?
Yep, email me or Matthew Lee and we'll make sure you're good to go.

Any interest in a pre-race gathering at Carvers again?  Say 7pm?  I could hand out rental SPOTs there, otherwise it will have to be at 3am before the start...

Yes I am interested. It would be great to talk to other folks about bike packing etc.

Anyone know when the Trackleaders site will populate with all the riders names that signed up?  Curious to see how many nutters are taking the plunge this year!

I know they are furiously getting things ready, but it currently looks to be around 50.

Carvers the night before would be cool. This thing starts early enough as is!  sleepy1

Everyone that has signed up is up on the tracker now!

http://trackleaders.com/ctr15

For folks that have their own SPOT, this is a good time to fire it up and make sure you get a Check/OK msg or TRACK msg through.

we all know you just want to size up your competition! haha

Stefan, are you adopting the rule change suggested by Scott Morris regarding no relegation for taking a car ride to receive medical attention?  I'm not racing this year but thought it was worth mentioning if it could help others make the right choices out on the trail.

[Chris JoIce, btw  Wink ]

.....it was indeed, good news!  after an ugly first two days, i went out on my own for Sargents>Denver.

the beginning parts were very muddy and slow going (30mi/day), and the hail-storms didn't help progress much, either!  we ran low on food and got pretty frustrated before arranging a pickup down cascade road.  BETA for others.... water is plentiful, trail should dry up and shape up, some trees down, but nothing too bad.

as a rookie, i learned an aweful lot the first leg of my journey.  extra food is crucial for physical and mental well-being.  upping my hydration was also key to adjusting to elevation and exposure.  and the wet weather was mostly a mental hurdle, but i learned to use my rain gear often and to it's fullest potential (i.e. put it on, leave it on, and tho wet, at least i'd be warm).

second go on the trail was most excellent, and though i wasn't fast (6days sargents>denver), i had an excellent time and enjoyed myself 95% of the time!  lots of hiking (SS), but that seems to be the name of the game for most.  i found trail conditions to be good, re-supplies to be reasonable (NOTE: Tarryall Store has limited hours on Tuesday.... he's a good dude and came down to open for me late on tuesday).

thanks to all the volunteers on the CT... we met a wonderful pair who helped greatly on our second day of the first leg.  without them, our bail-out would've been laden with significant issues for us and our rendevous vehicle.

best luck to all who are going out for the official CTR, and whether you are "racing" or just going for the experience, you will have a great time if you come well prepared and flexible.  ride on!  headbang
Congrats on a great trip Mr. JoIce!

Any ideals about where I might leave a motorcycle (sm Ninja 250 w/ bikerack) in Durango for the duration? How about a someplace to camp Saturday night? I'll be getting there from Farmington/Aztec direction.

Is anyone else having trouble seeing all the map tiles spool up on trackleaders? I get the whole site, but only the upper left corner shows up and it isn't really centered on the race course either; more like SE Colorado (Trinidad, etc.)

I've seen people mention this before, but haven't been able to reproduce it.  What web browser are you using?

EDIT - I see the issue on IE, and have fixed it, I believe.  Please try again.

We do recommend Chrome or Firefox for best results with TL.

Thx.

Out of curiosity, where are the longer hike a bike sections, and how long do they usually take?

To the hike a bike question - Sargent's Mesa was the worst for me last time.  Its all dependent on your gearing also

Hi all,
Good luck to everyone out there. I will be riding my bike from Denver airport and eventually making my way to "Living the Dream Brewery" in Denver tomorrow night.  My ETA is between 3:30-6pm based on if my spot device is at post office.

If anyone cares to join me for a pint or 2 I would happily talk about bike packing with other fellow bike packers

I'm ITT Saturday morning 5am west bound... good luck and be safe everyone.  Thanks Scott/Matt/Stefan for organizing it all! headbang

Good luck to all racers this year!

Also, a reminder to all to donate to the Colorado Trail Foundation  (http://www.coloradotrail.org/) for the great work they do in maintaining the CT and supporting biking on the CT, which is too rare among primarily hiking organizations - we need all the support we can get to keep trails open to bikes so please support them, no matter how much you donate.  When you donate, make sure to mention that you bike/bikepack so they know we support them.

I keep hearing about Sargent's Mesa being brutal. The only beta I can really find is from hikers forum saying it was about 5 miles of overly rocky terrain.  Google Earth or the topos  isn't helping either because it looks like a fairly mellow stretch.
Is that Vietnam Monument visible from the trail in Sargent's?

When I went south/westbound I thought Sargents Mesa was no big deal.  Tenmille was the worst part for me.

I visited the office in April and made sure that they knew I was biking the Colorado Trail when I donated. They are bike friendly, but I don't think it hurts to mention cycling in any communication with them.
