Looks like JM and JG both took a wrong turn... Few others have missed turns. Lots of roads merging on that detour! AD just miss the turn after Stagestop?

I think it may be a SPOT issue, not wrong turns - Trackleaders it is showing that every rider is "off route" under "Route Mile". On the Leaderboard only 3 riders show that they have traveled any mileage.

Chris last rode the CTR in '08. I got a brief text from him while he waited for food at Stagestop, saying he was very wet and very cold and he had to hide from some intense lightning for a little bit before getting there. Something about seeing it strike a rock across the valley, but as his wife I had to glaze over that part and forget he ever said that Wink. He's way ahead of his '08 pace so he's happy with that. I can't wait to see what shakes out as the sleep/no-sleep thing becomes a factor. We've got a 9 month old at home so he's used to getting crappy sleep... could be good, could be bad!

Oh no! JH + MB just missed the turn on Goose Cr. Road. DL made that mistake earlier.
NB going to see the sunset from the top of Georgia Pass... Unbelievable!

Where is Neil going? Weird SPOT data points or is the red track wrong?

His SPOT has done that 3 or 4 different times today - so I think it's a SPOT issue.

Isn't that par for the course these days! I would be more surprised if he said he was warm and dry  Wink

I've noticed some other strange SPOT points from some other riders also...

And yeah, Georgia Pass by 8pm is remarkable.

You mean bad in that he might realize he could get hours and hours of uninterrupted sleep on the trail  icon_biggrin

It looks to me like a lot of riders are missing the right turn at Rock Creek Hills Rd (39)?  The last 5 have missed it, and the current leader.  Is that a legal route?

Trackleaders doesn't seem to be displaying the updated CTR track. The current track doesn't go right, it stays on 39.

In other words, the riders are doing fine.

I did just notice that some riders are following the error in the old GPX, which suggests that they didn't load the latest version of the track. Oops.

Whether there are consequences, that'll be up to Stefan.

My vote (not that I really have any say) is to count either route as acceptable this year. While people should have been paying better attention to Stefan's site, the GPX was changed pretty late in the game. The penalty for their inattention is having to climb up that hill--which seems sufficiently punitive. Wink

Yes, I agree.  And thanks for the "non" off-track input, was wondering the same myself

Here's where the conversation started: http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=6817.msg66153#msg66153

July 25th is pretty last-minute. And not everyone who races the CTR reads these forums.

The fact that Trackleaders didn't even get the updated track into the system helps add support to the argument that either route could be deemed acceptable.

For the record, either is absolutely fine.  It's the detour, not the trail after all!
