I was out on the local trails today and got to see a few racers beginning the fooses creek section early in the afternoon.

Tim James--looked like he was starting to "feel it" a bit but positive atitude and moving along well

Cat Morrison--looking strong and happy.  I've run into Cat here and there over the years and have always been impressed by her steady rockin style

Kurt Sandiforth--I met him in Banff this year and was amazed that after completing the AZT 750 he was game for more.  Now having the Tour Divide under his belt he's on his way to the Triple Crown.  Kurt looked worked!  But he also seemed to be totally determinied to finish the CTR, and I'm sure he will.  He said he'd just keep moving slowly forward....I had to remind him that even though he may feel slow he's on pace for a very fast finish.  He's got my serious respect.

I just missed Chris Miller.  I chased him up fooses for a bit but pretty soon the single track was a bit to much for me and my cross bike so I gave up.  Bummer.

Right now it looks clear up on monarch pass and clear up towards bv, but just an hour ago there were some big storm cells moving over the trail both to the north and the south.

More calls: Brad Fuller called in from Leadville. Mark Caminiti called in from Leadville where he’s enjoying a burger after eating junk and go food for a couple of days. Toby Gadd called in a little confused! Okay, I had to play this one. Enjoy! Nick Patzer called in from BV with a busted hub! He’s trying to decide repair or pull out. Toby Gadd called in from BV. He managed to chase down a noise to his rear-D screws. All good! And Nick Patzer called in from BV again to say he has a new wheel!

Taking a corny moment here...

Finished the race in 2009 and I remember the 3rd night was soul breaking.... was SUPER weak, coming down with a cold, and throat/nose/ears were screaming.  I was crawling and barely moving my pedals.  Fortunately, I was in the middle of no where on Marshal Mesa somewhere and had little choice but to move forward.  If I could have quit, I don't know, I may have talked myself into bailing.  Instead, I had no choice but to bunk down early in the drizzle, say 7pm (now-ish).  Was DEAD to the world for probably 12-14 hours. Woke up and it was like it never happned.  Felt "strong" and revitalized, marched on and felt "fine" the rest of the way.

My point is, if any rookies on the trail can read this, my experience is keep moving forward, listen to your body, don't give up yet! It will get better...... some of the best memories of my life happened just down trail ....

a corny quote from a corny movie, but suits these coming days for you..... "you find out this life is a game of inches".... "the inches we need are everywhere around us"....."every minute, every second"...."we claw with our fingernails for that inch... and if we add up all those inches, it's the difference between winning and losing, between livin and dyin"..... "and I know if I'm gonna have any life in me, it because I'm willing to fight and die for that inch, because that is what livin is... its the six inches in front of your face!"

Ladies and Gentleman, I hope you all find the strength to keep clawin for another inch tonight.

Wow, D. Pickett-Heaps is a name I have not heard associated with an MTB race in a long time. He's a former Montezuma's Revenge winner.

Rooting for the two CM's; Chris and Cat!!

WOW, Dave is back?Huh?

Oh no - looks like he's bailing down Ward Gulch Road and maybe headed towards Saguache?  He's been through Sargents before so he should know the route until atleast hwy 114.

Giving a shout out out to Chris Neumann headbang. I don't know him but he needs to finish this race after so many attempts!  May he have the best of luck as well as the rest of the racers. Keep it going strong past BV and remember that the most beautiful parts of the trail are still ahead.

Wow! I only got 6 hours of sleep last night and was feeling sorry for myself until I pulled up the CTR page. Holy hell, indeed -- Ethan and Jefe are amazing! One last biiiiig push today (though I suppose they've been pushing since day 1). Mighty impressive you guys. Good luck!

I'm searching for a word that means something like ten times stronger than impressive.

It's all just so inspiring.  Ethan, Jefe, and Jesse, for sure.  But also everyone who is strung out between BV and Sargeants.  Hats off to EVERYONE who is out there right now - tired, sore, hungry ... but still going.  Wow.

Amen to that.  I do know him well and have been pulling for him for every one of those attempts.  I know he can knock this sucker out.  Tons of respect for every single rider who toes the line for this one.

Ethan and Jefe must have had an AMAZING moon ride out there last night on 22/23.  I hope it wasn't cloudy for them.

After Sargents and 22/23, Molas to town is a walk in the park... a tiring walk in the park after four days, but still flowy and fast.  Gosh these guys are killing it.

I was thinking the exact same thing.  Depending on how they are feeling, I think they are going to make a real push for sub 4 days.  Holy moly!

Dan Miller-Lionberg is making me nervous. I hope he's resting up for a solid push to the end and not sick or something...
