Still finalizing the track, but will post a video and gpx track in a few days, along with water and resupply info.  The track will probably change a bit if the f.s. finishes clearing a couple connectors.  It is a very scenic and rideable course, it is going to be good!

This route looks awesome.  Wild and remote country, which is what bikepacking should be.  Wish I could say I am 100% in, but it will have to be a last minute decision for me due to issues beyond my control.   Aarond, did we chat at Spring Pass on the CTR last year?  Early in the morning?  I had just woke up and you looked like you rode through the night.  You said you were gonna quit, but I think you smoked me on seg. 23 and 24.

It is a good course.  Wild and remote backcountry, but as rideable as possible.  Hope you can make it.  I think we may indeed have chatted on spring creek pass last year.  I was feeling pretty demoralized after Neil b "lapped" me by already putting 24 hours on me.  Glad I didn't quit but don't think I smoked anyone!

I thought that was you.  You certainly smoked me.  I left on Thursday afternoon a few days before the group icon_biggrin

does the route finish in the town of Buffalo?
looks like only 63 miles on the highway to Ten Sleep for car shuttling/retieval

The route will end in Dayton wy, which is about twice as far.  Try as I might I couldn't connect through to buffalo without having to include sergeants mesa type terrain.  Throughout, if I found myself saying, "this is no worse than stuff on the ctr or aztr," it was time for a reroute.  Track and resupply info will be up Sunday night with a video a couple of days later.

I'm really excited about this route. I am planning a week trip with my dad and brother needs some, and this is definitely on my radar. Not so technical that my 55 year-old dad can't handle it, and it looks like it should be beautiful like the sections of the CT that I have seen. We wouldn't be racing, though that might come in a couple years.

Cool.  In any of these races you always miss out on a lot of scenery at night.  Touring this route is a good option because for the most part there is a lot of water.  Also, most of the longhill sections can be shuttled, though it can take a little driving.  Finally, although overall it is not as technical as the ctr, it definitely has its tougher sections.  More info tomorrow.

Okay, here it is!   This has been so much more work than I ever dreamed, but it has been pretty fun.  The route is approximately 200 miles and 31,000 feet of climbing.  The fastest riders should finish within 48 hours.  There are so many options for putting together a route like this.  Right now the route is approximately 55% singletrack and I could easily replace about 30 miles of existing roads with singletrack, making the course nearly 70% singletrack, but it is totally not worth it for the additional hike a bike involved.  Here is the link and some new pictures.  I will have a video of much of the route up in a couple of days, does anyone have suggestions on open source music I can use?  So far the only free music I can find is electronica...

Yes, meet in Dayton around noon? I have a 4 door Tacoma and could shuttle 4 of us to Tensleep. I "plan" on finishing at dusk on the 20th, so however that works out with everyone else's "plan/pace" maybe I could get a ride back to my truck Sunday night?

yes I also plan to finish on the 20th
fingers crossed, knock on wood etc.

does your Tacoma fit 4 people and 4 bikes? or do I need to leave my bike at Ten Sleep first?

yes 4 people 4 bikes, I can just hang them off the tailgate Enduro style, lots of padding, etc. But let's wait a couple more weeks before finalizing shuttle plans.

I have changed the route a bit to eliminate some of the hike a bike and add more resupply points.  Heading out to cover the whole route again starting Sunday, just to make sure the .gpx track is good, and will have the final track posted by August 4.   https://www.bikemap.net/en/route/4129319-big-horn-trail-race-2017-almost/

Here is a video of the course.  I had numerous tech issues and lost a lot of time and about half of the video clips I shot.  However, I finally got it sorted out.  Sorry if the edit jumps around and is a bit choppy, I just don't have anymore time to spend on this right now.  The video mostly just shows the descents.  I left out the roads and the climbing because it is kind of boring to watch.  Also, didn't have time to come up with any music, so you will have to provide your own:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4KvxWsbSKo

It was hazy last week, but bluebird skies today!  Got the whole route previewed with the help of my new little motorcycle.  Considering I haven't ridden one in 20 years, and that was a street bike, it was a little bit insane for me to preview the course with it.  I dumped it many, many times but fortunately no damage other than some cracked plastic.  .gpx is done and Scott Morris is helping me with some technical issues before I post it and the SPOT signup info.

pic of Tongue River Canyon yesterday, mile 245.

What I'm hearing is you've already set a course record thats gonna be hard to beat.   icon_biggrin

Nice work with the route!  Looks interesting.  Can't ride it this year, but I'll add it to the never ending list of rides I want to do....

I bought a dirtbike last year for route exploration as well....  very fun.

Nice work Aaron, way to come through on this one. Not in for this year but this is definitely one I'll be watching for the future. Best of luck all the guinea pigs out there!
