The second annual running of the Big Horn Trail Race in N. Wyoming has a proposed start date of July 6, 2018 @ 7:00 a.m., leaving from Ten Sleep Brewery.  The course should be nice and green with lots of flowers then.  It is approximately 200 miles and 30,000 feet of climbing.  The current (soft) record is about 51 hours.  The route starts at Ten Sleep Brewing in Ten Sleep Wyoming and finishes in Dayton, Wyoming.

Howdy Aaron,
Great looking route you put together! What percent single track would you estimate it is? Looks like the Bighorns have a deep snowpack this year, do the mosquitos get nasty up there?

thanks

Hey dmt, I think the route is about 55% single track.  The snowpack so far is anywhere from about 80% to 125% (http://www.wrds.uwyo.edu/wrds/nrcs/snowprec/snowprec.html) (powder river, tongue river and big horn basin).  I think mosquitoes will be a non issue.  There might be a swarm at twilight if you are in the wrong spot, but they aren't very big or ferocious.

Two of us from Big Sky are IN!! The new, shortened, route could be completed before dark on the second day. One resupply at Wyoming High Country Lodge, skip Shell store. Lots of daylight available, no lights to save weight? Or bring lights to ride through the night/cold, and then nap when it's warm out and forego the weight of your sleeping bag/pad...?

Good news!  For the 2nd year in a row Ten Sleep Brewing is offering a pint logo glass full of beer to all bona fide finishers (21 and over).

Seriously considering this. How do people get back to the start?

Will probably have to ride or hitch back to start, but I can make a shuttle drop or two at the top of granite pass above ten sleep.

Looks like just a day on the road to close the loop through Buffalo back to Ten Sleep, assuming this route is good: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27597471

I'll get to work on the schedule with the wife.

shuttling and getting rides was not a problem last year since it is not long of a drive between start and finish, just have arrange with other riders to leave a car at each end

sorry can't make it this year, same time as BC XC Marathon champs

With this being out my backdoor and the love of the Big Horns, I might as well load up my bike, bags and join in on the fun. See you at the start.

Out of curiousity- as I am headed out solo... how many people did this last year or are expected this year?  Just wondering if I’ll be around many or any other people on the trail Wink
Thanks

Last year 4 people did it.  I don't know how many people will start this year, but the website got about 500 hits last month.  Still, I would expect 5 to 10 starters, plus at least a couple of itt's I know of.

Sarah Wallick is on course doing an itt.  http://trackleaders.com/bighorn18f.php

As a former medical resident who has had more than enough sleep deprivation (thank you very much), she is also establishing a new "sleep," or "smell the roses" category.  This category is for anyone who rides 14 hours or less per day (or stops 10 or more hours).
