AZTR 300 and 750 Shuttle planning

OK, Denver RV idea is a NO GO.

Pretty much thinking this year for me is train the next 2 months for AZT 750, DO the AZT 750 and then take it from there (Tour Divide?! CTR?! BOTH?!).

So, looking for a ride for myself and my bike from the Denver area, if there's any space in any shuttle that's going down. Happy of course to pitch in for gas money, beer money and take a turn at the wheel, if needed.

Im flying in From Alaska into Tucson and flying out of Phoenix or Tucson which ever works, I can pay gas and such, is it possible to get a ride from anybody, Ill be riding the 300.

I have chartered a Passenger Van with a trailer.  If you need a ride to the trailhead from Phoenix or Tucson, then I need you.  The planned arrival time is by 0800 Friday 13 April.  The Van will start from central Phoenix around Glendale Avenue and AZ-51 (Piestewa Freeway).  The approximately 4 hour route will follow AZ-51 to Interstate 10, Interstate 10 to AZ-83, AZ-83 to Parker Canyon Lake.    This gives us an hour for one last gear check and whatever else you need to do before the 0900 start.  Will be glad to coordinate stops along route to pick you up, unfortunately the stops will have to be right off the highway with access back on.  Any stops greater than this will increase the time and thus the price.

The calculated room in the trailer is for seven bikes.  Unfortunately it is a smooth interior trailer with no tie downs and designed to haul suitcases.  The charter company said we could haul bikes but they won’t be responsible and neither am I.  They did not have any trailers designed to support a professional bike team or haul mountain bikes to the trail head, so since I couldn’t find anything better I opted in.  I plan seven race ready bikes, pedals off and handle bars turned 90 degrees.  No bike boxes.  We should be able to load our precious bikes to arrive without damage.

If you want to ride then the cost is $89.00 per person.  If there are enough of us then it will defray the charter cost but best of all be a sure thing.  

Send me an email and I will send you a PayPal Bill.  Six spots only.  If I cannot get enough racers I will cancel the charter from my credit card and return your money.

The charter is a fix cost divided evenly blah blah, so plan on not getting a refund once you have paid and later decide you’re not racing, or get a better ride.

Jeff, if a Tucson meeting spot is needed my house here is only 2 miles off the I 10 I have plenty of parking and racers have been camping out in my drive way the last two years. If needed I can pick up riders flying into Tucson and bring them here. I have a work stand and tools to put bikes together.

Also I am wondering if by using my pickup truck for bikes, regular cab 6 foot bed, could you get more bodies in the van.

Seems like most of the shuttle vans are 15 passenger. I bet we can get 6-7 bikes in the back of my truck, front wheels off, then those riders could pitch in on the van bringing the cost per rider down.

All I would ask would be to have my gas covered. I figure less then $40 total. And since the van price will go down everyone chipping in for my gas is pretty cheep.

If you could come up with 14 riders your van comes down to $45 each and gas would be less then $3.

$50 per person is a pretty good deal I should think.

Sounds good!  I think the van seats 13.  Right now I need confirm seven in the van to make this charter work.  Five seats left.  The Positive Space seats in the van are limited by how many bikes the enclosed trailer will hold.  Seven is the magic number.  Once we can pay for the charter and it is confirmed then any extra riders will definitely lower the cost for everyone.  It will be easy to redistribute the pot fairly and equitably, once we can get this van locked down.

It sounds as though your location is an excellent place to pick up riders and bikes.  Also open to other stops in Phoenix, Tucson and along the route.

If you are one of the racers still looking for a ride get on the van!  It is going to the start line.

Travel Thursday to hotel in Sierra Vista AZ.  A Phoenix based relative will drive my car to the 750 start Friday morning and drop us off. (Hotel in Sierra Vista is 27 miles from 750 start so we can get a good nights rest before the start)

I have arranged for my car to be waiting for me at the 750 finish, UT border.  Details for “staggered finish times” to be worked out as needed.

Cost:
Even split on gas, shared travel meals etc. 
Hotel rooms are at no cost (assuming I am able to use my work/travel points, which is almost a sure thing)

did the last van & truck combination actually happening?
if so pretty sure two of us flying in would chip in for this option to the start.
the only thing we are not getting to tucson until 10PM on 4/11 due to airlines changed
the flights  ....

we don't have a rental car reserved yet, anyone else leaving the airport that evening
want to share one to get to a place (the hostel mentioned in AZT string?) to sleep.
but then we would need help dropping it off before hopping on the van/truck.....

Yes the Van Charter plan is still a go.  I have a signed the contract with the Charter Company and given them my credit card.

So far, we have five racers that have paid and reserved a seat and trailer spot.

We will more than likely need to use Tim’s overflow plan to get as many racers and bikes to the start.  If you are not one of the first seven still plan on paying $89.00 via PayPal and then after the fact we can make it all even... 

Looks like the charter will be making a few stops for racers in route with one being at Tim’s in Tucson.

Looking forward for the 13th!!

Sorry I have not updated.  We have seven for the van.  Steve, Pawel, and Dan send me a proposed location so we can plan and coordinate timing that will work best for all.   We will see Ruth x2 and Arno at Tim's in Tucson.  Leaving Tim's at 0600 AM Friday.

So we can carry a total of seven additional racers, three at most starting North of Tim's Tucson location.
