Re: AZT 300 Parking at Picketpost?

Can anybody comment about leaving [4+ days] a car at the Picketpost terminus for the AZT 300? Or would it be better to stash a car somewhere in Superior?

Re: 300 GPX / Spot

Scott,
So, we can download the track for the 300, tell you that we want to rent a Spot, and be good to go?

I'd wait until closer to the event on the track.  There's always a chance something will pop up that changes the file.

SPOT rental stuff will be available closer to the event, too.  Probably a ~month out.

I think Picketpost would be fine.  300 riders have left vehicles there in the past.

We are roughly 12 weeks out from AZT start date... that means it's time to start training!

Or at least that is when LWcoaching's excellent and AZT300 specific training plan starts.

If you haven't seen it, here's a little info:

http://lwcoaching.com/arizona-trail-race-300-training-plan-released/

I broke the course record in 2012 using her plan as a guide, and so did Aaron Gulley in 2013, though I think it's geared toward a 'personal best' AZT, not necessarily a record breaking fun.  It works.

Is anyone working on a shuttle from Picketpost to the start?
Last year Ray organized this and it was great. As I understand it, Ray is not riding this year.

Who's in for the 750? I haven't even started think about getting to the start. I'd like to hook up on a shuttle from Phoenix or Tucson. Let me know if anyone wants to start planing.

I'm in for the 750. Since I really had no business doing it last year with one functioning shoulder I'm looking forward to it this year with a much stronger upper body. I'll be doing the same deal. Leave car at the finish, u-haul to SV and work on a ride out to the start. Options for one or two others.

Nice guys.  Yeah Arno!

I'm planning on going for redemption on the 750.

I forgot to mention here, but I'm putting on Camp Tucson again --1 month before the AZTR.  At-your-own-pace group rides, self-supported.  Great AZT scouting/training.  Open to all.

Whish I could join in. I'll be in Tucson 3/29-4/5. I can't wait get some desert riding in. I'd love to hook up with some folks for some local trail knowledge. Then I'll have to head back to CA for a week before the race. It would be nice if I could just stay in AZ for three weeks. glasses2

Hey Sean, if you still have any room, I'd love to get a ride.

B Bock--yep, seeking redemption.  See you then!

Hey guys, just a heads up, I am going to be passing up on my southbound quest for this year. I'll of course be following the dots, and wish you all good preparations.

Just a quick note, mainly for AZ locals.  Zay Hartigan, segment steward for Canelo East, is doing a small work event on Feb 22.  He is looking for 1 or 2 people that can bike in to Canelo East, use tools that he hauls for half a day, then ride out.

I absolutely can't make it, but figured somebody else might be able to.

Any work you do out there, you will personally greatly benefit from, come April 11.  Smiley  Those that have ridden Canelo east can attest to that.

I think he may schedule another one in March, increasing my likelihood of being able to attend.

Drop him a note here: azt2@zaycom.com

I'm strongly considering requiring trailwork (not necessarily on the AZT, but all the better) and/or joining the ATA in order to participate in the 300/750.  This would fulfill that!

Scott,
Does being a IMBA member in good standing and doing volunteer trail work with my local IMBA affiliate, FooMTB http://www.foomtb.org/, get me into the AZT 300 Club? Wink

Yeah, obviously if you're not in AZ it wouldn't need to be work on the AZT!

The Wasatch 100 foot race requires trailwork (preferably on course) to participate.  It seems like it could be a good idea for CTR/AZT and other singletrack races.

I think requiring ATA membership is a great idea. Small price to pay.
