Anyone done this race before? I am looking to give triathlon a break and do some gravel riding going. This race isnt too far from home and looks to be a good time but I havent found much info on it. Plan to give the TD a try in a couple years so why not start with the shorter races. Gotta make sure the mtb works too (looking dusty). I see 750 ish people from last year but does it fill up and is it just a postcard mail in at the beggining of the year?

Thanks.

Ahh, the grand-daddy.....  Postcard registration is in January, that's it.  950+ people started the hundo this year with many more that registered but didn't take the start line.   Excellent course put on by most excellent people.  Highly recommended.  There is also the Royal at 162 miles and the Alexander (new this year) at ~400 miles.   I've done the hundo a bunch of times.  Someday I'll find my big-boy pants and ride the Royal.  Spring Valley has welcomed this race with open arms and it is a fantastic experience.

Course highlights
- Everything
- Good people - both the volunteers and other riders
- Some choice hills throughout the course.  SE MN isn't flat.
- A wide variety of road conditions from fast hardpack to fresh class 5 suffering
- A handshake from the honorable race director Chris Skogen at the finish.

Highly recommended.   watch this.... http://www.royalantler.com/projects/almanzo-100/

I'll second everything ocary said. Awesome course, awesome atmosphere. The 162 mile race has kept a nice low-key vibe if starting with 900 other riders doesn't sound appealing to you.

Agree with everything said above. If you are in the area, this is a no-brainer to sign up for and attend. As Boney said, the 162 has a smaller field and a mellower vibe. Either event is worth entering.

Great thanks for everything. Looks like I am doing it next year. I went with Trans Iowa this year and made it 150. Good times and look forward to more of it for years to come.
