Thanks for posting this here.

I made a quick announcement on my blog (http://topofusion.com/diary/2019/01/08/arizona-trail-race-2019-and-beyond/), but:

I'm passing the AZTR torch over to John Schilling.

Everything is good hands with him.  Trackleaders will be on board, too.

I hope to sit down and write some thoughts on the history of the race and what it's meant to us all, hopefully before start.  Crazy to think but it's only slightly over 3 months away!

Scott,

Hats off to you on the great job you have done with the rides.  I have a wealth of good memories riding, suffering, and just being out there.  Many cool people.  The 300 has become much more rideable and easier to follow over time which is great.  Did a 20 mile ride last weekend above Picketpost.  Very sore the next day.  Thanks for your vision, leadership and passion.

Scott, I'm sure your ears will be burning for many years to come with people out on course cursing you under their breath every April  icon_biggrin icon_biggrin icon_biggrin .
Cycling the state of Arizona in one shot is truly one of the most spectacular cycling experience anyone can undertake. Thank You! for all your dedicated effort over the years. And no one better to hand the reins off to than John.
All the best guys!

Watch this space for a signup link approximately one month before the start.  There is a risk of missing the grand depart if it fills up fast. but people can start any other time they like as well, including a day before or a day after the grand depart.

Thanks for such an amazing event Scott.

John, you have some big shoes to fill. Lucky for all of us that you love AZT as much as you do.

So, without Scott as a filter, there is no one to stop John's crazy ideas. Though I will admit Jacob's Crosscut isn't THAT bad.

Hello,

Is anyone willing to lend their Spot for someone joining the Mass start? I have an Inreach and don't want to buy another locator unit. Or can trackleaders rent one specifically just for this race?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Thanks.

I think trackleaders supports inReach - they didn’t always but there is an option when you go to the signup page to use your inReach public url.  Maybe Scott can confirm.

I'm planning my logistics pre and post race. Looks like riders from out of the country(like me) are in a bind in terms of how to get in and around AZ especially without knowing anyone. I'm trying to figure out where can I stash my stuff like clothes that I'll be wearing pre and post race.

How do you people go around with this? I can of course haul everything up of course but truly not ideal.

Grateful for any tips.

You planning on the 300 or 750? Knowing which event you're riding will make it easier to help with logistics.
One method is to mail your belongings to yourself (to the nearest postoffice or a hotel if they're willing to receive it) before the start.

This is my first dip into Long bikepacking race. As a rook, I my rational mind says start with something short. Then again, I don't want to fly all the way down to AZ from Yukon and just do a 3-4 bikepacking trip.

I'll make a decision by monday. OTOH, I don't think it makes much a difference right? Maybe the details will but planning it will still be the same. I was hoping someone will be there in the finish to hand me two Big Macs and an ice cold Canada Dry even if I finish at 2 in the morning.

Cheers,

D
