The hypothetical reroutes make sense.  I'll just wait to see what develops on this forum.  I'm committed unless the airport starts on fire.  (not funny, you never know).  I also purchased the CORSAR card and taped it into my Colorado Trail Databook so that detail is taken care of. 
Thanks for the info.  It is very helpful to the out of state Rookies.

Thanks for the info.  Those darn fires.  I have my GPS track loaded and I hope that we are not required to reload the GPS after modifications.  I don't have the apps and loading tracks is tough for a non techy.  A writeup would be great.  I'm confident the locals know good options for a reroute if required.  Looks like some have already been suggested.  Getting to Silverton earlier would be good. The riding out of Silverton looks tough. 

Can anyone recommend a hotel or rental car place close to Waterton Canyon?  I've spent time in Boulder climbing but I'm not familiar with Denver.

Hey all, I am curious to see if any of you don't use GPS. I am having trouble securing one and am out of budget to purchase. Has anyone ever reversed the directions from the databook for a northbound route? I know the trail is pretty well marked, but I don't want to inadvertently miss any miles and get a DQ. Especially up by jarosa mesa?

Hotel: Hampton Inn & Suites, Highlands Ranch (South Denver metropolis); from there is easy 9mile prologue through Chatfield SP to Waterton TH.

It still needs some work, but unlike previous editions, the roster should reflect the current state of registrations (within a half hour or so).  Any edits that folks make to their profiles or share pages should be automatic, too.

As Stefan posted in the tracking registration thread, it's a touch over half full, at 40 registered.  One of those is Todd Johnson, back for his 3rd attempt at 'alpine style' (no resupply, uber-self-supported) on the route!

I should mention if you have your own SPOT (or InReach), go ahead and fire it up to make sure you show up on the tracking map (within a half hour or so).

I've checked for bad/private feeds, but it's always good to make sure everything is working as expected.  Thanks!

Per CT FB page:

UPDATE CT SEGMENT 7 AS OF THUR JULY 13. Most of CT Segment 7 remains closed due to the Peak 2 Fire. Still closed is that part of CT Segment 7 from Gold Hill TH (mi 0.0) to junction with Wheeler Trail (approx mi 10-1/2). Other trail names associated with this closure are Gold Hill Trail, Peaks Trail, and Miners Creek Trail...all of which remain closed.
WHEELER TRAIL HAS REOPENED END TO END, effectively reopening part of CT Segment 7 from the junction with Wheeler Trail (Seg 7, approx mi 10-1/2) to Copper Far East Lot (end Seg 7). This shows in the CT Databook. Three good detour options appear below:
DETOUR VIA WHEELER TRAIL. The Wheeler Trail travels up and over the Tenmile Range on a different route than the CT. Open to hike, bike and horse, traveling the Wheeler Trail would be similar in mileage and vertical to CT Seg 7. From Breckenridge, one approach would be to ascend the Peak 10 Road beyond the ski lifts to its junction with the Wheeler Trail and turn right (west and north) and crest the Tenmile Range and descend until you meet CT Seg 7. Angle left and down (now reopened) to the Copper Far East Lot, the break between Segs 7 and 8.
DETOUR VIA THE REC PATH. Detouring CT Seg 7 via the Recreation Path is a good way to go. The end of Seg 6 is on the rec path. Continue north on the rec path and, at intersections, keep the Tenmile Range on your left as you go. The rec path will curve west and skirt Frisco. Then it will curve south and follow Tenmile Creek toward Copper Mountain. From the end of Seg 6 you'd travel the rec path about 12 miles to where the rec path again becomes the CT at Copper Far East Lot, the beginning of Seg 8.

What, no Tenmile Sufferfest, because of a silly fire? Gosh, it just wouldn't be a real CTR without a lovely HAB and brake-bake over the Tenmile Range.
I'm just two weeks post-op of rotator cuff surgery, so I'll be living vicariously thru all of you guys and gals. Have fun, ride smart [be flexible and adaptable] and don't make the news.

Yes, Wheeler Pass will be the reroute if the CT is still closed there.

Im not racing this year so maybe I'm not allowed to comment...but...

Wheeler pass should be the reroute if you guys/gals want to stay semi true to form.  I'm bummed for you all about the descent from 10 mile not being part of it because it's fun.  Either way if you do Wheeler At least you get the gorgeous views and challenge of the climb and stay off the bike path....  You'd also get a nice bonus stop in Breck and there are a few options for the descent off the pass.

I'm jealous of those of you that are getting out this year and kicking ass. Have a great time, be safe, power through the low spots, and ride like the wind.

I never really planned out water resupplies much.  The CT has a pretty good amount of water on the route, the dry areas are not that often.  The only places I consciously make sure I fill up are at tank seven creek (whether going northbound or southbound) and Around cataract lake.  A lot of it depends on timing, if going through at the hottest point in the day, or going to sleep soon will be times I try to get a bit more water on board.  An additional southbound one (not for this year) is the marshall pass spring, it's pretty dry until tank seven creek from there.

I have always run with one bottle and a 100 oz bladder.  When I run the bladder dry then it's bottle time and time to start looking for a water refill, I've never really had a problem of running out except in the Cochetopa Hills/ Mrashall pass/ Sargents Mesa area during a southbound run.

There are a lot of cows around tank seven creek, so make sure you wait the full duration on your purification tablets with that water.

Following up on this response from a few weeks ago.  Where exactly is Marshall Pass Spring?  I can't seem to locate it in the CT guidebook. There is mention of some water 1/4 mile down Silver Creek Trail.  Is that the spring you are referring to?

If you're heading northbound the spring is about a mile past Marshall Pass on route.  It's a small pipe coming out of the hillside.  There is usually water running across the road so it's hard to miss, even if you're heading southbound and haulin' down the dirt road.
