My concept is CTRE- an enduro race over the whole 550 mile route. Timed descents only. Winner has lowest aggregate DH times. I would put myself as the early favorite, but if Matt Schiff or Joey Ernst or Tanner Morgan enter we will just add a penalty for high post downhilling sans droppers. Smiley

This so-called CTRE might just be the only enduro race I would ever have interest in participating in!  And I'll take you and Addy on even with the non-dropper time penalty!  Wink

Seriously though, as always, I would love to be at the CTR start (and finish) line for a third time.  Again, as always, it really depends on what the bike shop does to my life next summer...

And for the record, I don't particularly like the idea of a stage-race CTR either.  Stage-race-tour-whatever of the CT, sure, awesome.  But the CTR is a very simple thing, let's keep it that way.

And I've tried to stay off of here, just reading and biting my tongue trying not to get roped into a 'discussion' that may come off the wrong way, but a direct call out Joey,  nono Wink hahah!  I'd throw my hat in for the DH's, on my hardtail at that.
Colorado is RAD, but we all know you guys make your annual pilgrimage up to BC to learn how to ride downhill properly Wink While I head down there to suck wind and learn how to ride up and up and up! (ALL JOKES!)

All joking aside Enduro style would be fun except for the whole heavy packs, riding at night, being tired, etc.

This may prove to be an awesome addition to the CT in time:

A little more dirt, a little less highway.

In a sick kind of way, I kinda like the short 4-mile [?] blast down the highway [for Sobo years], after finishing the Clear Creek Segment-11, to the bridge over the Arkansas. Going fast enough to spin-out and tuck re-inflates the ego a bit. Only other speed like that is the short pave down to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. And IMHO, Segment-11 is one of the most enjoyable and rideable segments of the CT which will hopefully always remain part of the course. I introduced a couple of friends to S11 during the height of the fall aspen glory. We also opted CCW around Twin Lakes to check out historic Interlaken, which was also very cool.
Seriously though, these types of rails-to-trails efforts must be applauded!

I want to race this route in the traditional format. If I can't stay awake I'll sleep. If I can push through the night, then I'll push through the night.

This is how I feel right here. Even though I posted "8 days" as my expected finish, I sure will try to do 6 or whatever. I just feel I know my limits and I'll have to get some sleep.

Now just have to start training Smiley

Maybe Santa Stefan will let us know soon. Yeah, I also need to carve out my vacation schedule for 2016 pretty soon. Seems like CTR date is usually about a month or so after the TD, giving time for those aliens to semi-recover and hop back on a bike in time for the CTR.

I'll follow along in the thread and might be in for the 2016 CTR.  Really thought I wouldn't be, but the thoughts of a possible 5 day finish keep creeping in my head, just need to sort the body out better on the first 2 days.  Plus, I still have some slight numbness in my fingers from this years race, really thought that would be gone by now.

That first day Tarryall detour will be a rough one though, at least I'd be hitting it after the peak heat of the day.

This all reminds me, I need to still write up my 2015 race, probably have forgot a lot though.

Full moon is July 19th, so maybe we'll have a mid-July CTR this year?

I still have some numbness in my hands too, but I can't stop thinking about trying this damn race again. It's somewhat annoying because now I know exactly how much this race hurts, but I'm still drawn to it. I just want to fix the mistakes I made last year and go into it much better prepared.

This...exactly (minus the hand numbness part (thankfully) I've dealt with that lots in the past and have hopefully, finally figured things out.) It's still early. Mid winter the mind looks for things to look forward to. With the CTR I'm taking the, I'll see how I feel about it as it approaches attitude cause that thing was draining.

Adam, (this is Joe btw)
What would you say were the biggest mistakes you made?

My biggest mistakes:
  • Not enough specific training (loaded bike training)
  • Multiple navigation errors (One very bad one)
  • Not enough chamois lube
  • Too much food that required stopping to eat
  • Sawyer inline filter was too hard to drink from

I could go on and on...

Having too much food is an awesome problem to resolve. I essentially ran out of food three times during my first attempt in 2012. Three strikes and I was out...

Hey everyone, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Norm from Canada, haha. I live in Kelowna BC, which is considerable less elevation (at 1000ft) than Colorado but within range of some higher elevation to train.

I'm doing my first CTR (ITT) this year and really looking forward to it. Been doing as much winter riding as I can to train, and have been combing the forums for months absorbing as much information as I can.

I'd just like to thank all of you who post information and tips as I would have no clue (really i still don't) about what to expect and more importantly how to plan.
Hope to meet some of you along the way and wish you all the best in your race.

Norm

Hey Norm,
The tips and advice all over this website are invaluable. Do you have any specific questions you haven't been able to find an answer to? Although this thread doesn't seem very active, I think lots of people look at it.

Thanks for the response Bob. I think at this moment I'm good on the questions. I'm focused on training (some winter activities too) and building my base. I know I will have questions around logistics, safety, bike setup, but I see everyone does it in their own way and is very good at sharing this. Kudos to everyone for that. I am pumped to be doing this ride and meeting you all. Cheers, Norm
