Didn't quite get that one either. I liked the route last year. Once you made it past the residential area up the 4-5 mile dirt switchback road you descended into a valley and there was a sign on the right for a 24 hour bar and grill complete with rustic lodging. That place was heaven..great food and beer. Then you get up the next morning and start the long ascent of Union pass. Never stuck out in my mind as a piece of the course that needed revision but I did see there is a reroute that cuts off my bar and grill :-(

I know the route is changed around Rawlins because of the construction, but why the change around Union Pass?

Avoids a lot of high traffic paved road. It is actually the old Alternate on the aca maps

Is the Union Pass alternate worth doing if you're not racing?

Is there another thread I should be watching for TD comments?  I'm used to constant banter as soon as the race starts, but the last comment here is from Thursday.....

Howdy Folks!
Getting prepared for the first of the riders to arrive Ovando today.  Question for those in the know:  How much time does it take to ride between Ovando and Lincoln.  They have a projection for Lincoln, reaching there in another 13 hours; but trying to keep folks here abreast for Ovando arrival time.  Thanks for any help,

So, after spectating at an exciting and inspirational TD GD in Banff on Friday past (not to mention following the dots of amazing riders like Hal Russell, Travis Waters and Tom de Vries), I've ordered the first two maps in the GDMBR series. For future reference, of course...

The first step on the slippery slope?

And what a glorious slope it is.

Hi Guys/Girls,

I looked around a bit, but couldn't find the answer to my question, so I'd appreciate any advice.

I'm going to be doing a SOBO ITT beginning in late July.  I'm thinking of shipping my bike ahead of me rather than dealing with the airlines.  Does anyone know of a place where I can ship my bike?  Perhaps a bike shop in Banff or Calgary?  I understand some have had a few delays with Customs, but I don't have a hard start date so that may not be a concern for me.  In fact, if I can ship it ahead of time, I may be able to confirm its delivery before leaving home here in Texas.

Otherwise, I guess I'll just bring it with me and pay United's exorbitant fee!

Thanks for any advice!

Soul Ski and Bike is reputed to be a good shop in Banff. And they will accept your bike for shipping.

However, if you talk to them, they will tell you not to ship it, because it will get hung up at Customs.

IMO, yes. There's some ATV trail and hike-a-bike on the steep sections, but once you get to the top, it's an absolutely gorgeous ride along 7+ miles of high alpine meadow. When I went through a couple of weeks ago, the flowers were in full bloom and their scent was completely intoxicating.

Hello!

I'm getting ready to start an ITT this Friday, but haven't been able to get my SPOT registered on the trackleaders site. I remember getting a link via email last year but didn't receive one this year and haven't been able to get a hold of anyone from the site yet. Does anyone have a link they can share? After this evening my internet access will be intermittent and I was hoping that I won't have to take care of this from the Banff library the day before I take off.

Thanks,
Lindsay S

Hi KJ,

I received this link from Bill Peschka:  trackleaders.com/tourdivide-signup

After you fill out your info and pay the reg fee on this site, I think someone at trackleaders will add you to the board Smiley
