Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has used the passport wallet size card to get back into the USA? My wife is flying up as well, and I thought I would give her my passport, and use the card to get back in USA.

 Thanks Peter

I'm not sure about the wallet sized passport card, but I made a copy and laminated it to carry along with me as well as having a copy on a flash drive.  I looked yesterday at Trackleader and did not see anything at this point.  See you all in Banff

I have a friend that used one of the passport cards to get back into the states during the 2013 TD. No issues for him. You will need your regular passport for the flight as the cards are only good for land (and maybe water) crossings of the border.

maybe take a picture, or photocopy of passport to carry with you as well

or take "full" passort, and mail it back to yourself once you cross the boarder?

I checked into getting a card about 2 weeks ago as I will not be flying up.
But felt it was way to late to make it happen.  You have to mail in your regular passport and then wait for the process to occur.......I wasn't willing to mail away my passport and then hope the gov got everything done and back to me in a timely manner...

Re: passports. I plan to bring my real passport then mail it back home in Eureka, along with the Canada map. Dropping weight  Wink I have a pre-stamped mailer ready to go since Eureka travel will hopefully be over the weekend.

Sorry to sound really dumb but does the spot gps place a tent in the spot you stop, shut it off and turn it back on? I am just curious.

I second MDSeaburg on a pre-stamped mailer. Besides that, getting anxious to get this on the way. Almost 2 weeks away from the GD. See you all there.

It places a tent after a certain number of hours without moving.  Not sure about the on/off.

I think that Tent icon might be something Scott is doing in the Trackleaders code (kind of like showing the speed for a particular check in). I don't recall seeing a tent on my regular spot tracker page, and highlighting a particular dot on the track only shows the lat/long date/time on the regular Spot page.

For what it's worth I rode the from Gunnison, CO to Doylesville onto the TD route to Del norte on Tuesday. I can happily report despite record levels of snow, numerous hail and short thunderstorms the route was totally dry. the only exception was the jeep roads before the air strip in Del Norte. they were very muddy and rutted. I was surprised at the good conditions as everything further west , San Juans, are soaked and very muddy. snow is still down to 9000 ft or so.

Images from the top of Cochetopa pass. notice no leaves on the Aspen's yet. I was in a hail storm on the top of Carnero pass so no pictures. Going east from Sargents to Salida may still be snowy. certainly looked that way.

4 hours, yep.

FYI - thanks to John Fairbairn, we have a "v2" of the garmin .img file for basemaps.  A couple of tiles were added to the original v1 file to cover the Wamsutter reroute.  Thanks John!

It's on my topofusion/divide gps page (same place for the GPX).

Just curious...

The latest track on the trackleaders site shows the TD 2015 route at about 2867mi.  That's a significant increase to the Tourdivide.org site which lists the route at 2745mi.  Is that just a GPS mileage anomaly - or has the additional sections/re-routes over the past few years actually appended that many more miles?

Scott, do we just download it then drop it into the Garmin folder on the  eTrex, then Enable the map in the settings? Thanks. Dave

Hmmm...Google Earth ( click on main route line,  click on "Track no. 1" in Places list, Right click Properties, Measurement) shows the tracks, both TD2015 v2 and TD2015 10k versions, as 2654 and 2649 miles respectively. Maybe Trackleaders includes local beer runs??

I strongly suspect the actual length is the #miles per day ridden, times days riding.  icon_biggrin

And once the Race is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the Race is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the Race, you won't be the same person who rode in. That's what the Race is all about.
