I've had a few e-mails asking if we'll be doing another Volume of the Cordillera. Most definitely (in fact, there is already a contribution - and we have a great cover photo!).

So to all you racers and blue dot watchers, please consider contributing as this collaborative effort is only viable if you write something.

Since I'll be racing the Transcontinental again in July/August, I won't start harassing you until mid-August -- but feel free to send anything before then to cordillera [at] lpcb.org. A good way to use my time recovering after the TCR :-)

Thanks guys, and I just found this on Counter Assault's website (bear spray manufacturer):

11. Can I carry Counter Assault onto an airplane?

FAA regulations do not allow transportation of more than 4 ounces of pepper spray packed in your luggage. You may call us for local dealers in the area you are going or we can drop-ship to your destination.
Inkerpok, you are essentially in a pressurised can when in an aeroplane and that bear spray WILL get recirculated again and again if it leaks. You can imagine what it will do to everyone in that can. Especially the drivers....why risk it?

I had trouble downloading the detailed file to my Garmin eTrex 30. It only accepted the first 700 miles or so. Then I downloaded the 10,000 point file without trouble. All 2648.7 miles, there for the riding.

MD, is the 10 000 point file detailed enough? That is only ~2 points per kilometre(~3 per mile). Is it worth breaking down the full sized file into smaller portions or am I just overthinking this? I don't want to miss some of those TD gems where you ride along a muddy trail just metres(yards) off the side of a nice paved road. Wink

from 1st hand experience--10,000 point file is more than sufficient detail for the TDR route.  You will NOT miss a turn due to file size. 

Side note: Sections that are overlaid on a map and in essence drawn by hand & then transferred to a gpx file (not sure if this applies to any of the new sections) are the ones that can be confusing.  Even then, if you know how to use a trail style GPS a hand drawn track is usually no more than a minor inconvenience at worst.

Billy's been holed up at Hopewell CG for 19 hours now, I know what he posted on FB but that seems like a long time. I wonder if his spot is working properly? Is there anything there but a CG? Cabins or something?

The other is just as you start the final climb to Lynx Pass. So even if the iconic first Aspen Alley is now off-route, there are still plenty to look forward to.

Looks like about 67 miles from Wamsutter to the CO State Line and another 14 to Brush Mtn for about 81. And about 97 miles from Atlantic City to Wamsutter.

Thanks for the information!

As Justin mentions in a previous post,  probably an over abundance of options here,  but it's nice to know they are there, and certainly EVERYONE raves about Brush Mountain Lodge, the hospitality is legendary!

Another poster mentioned the ice cream at the Clark store and posted their hours , 6:30 am - 8 pm

No reason, except that the ACA made the former alternate the main route and vice-versa.  Rumor has it they did this to avoid pavement.

I didn't feel comfortable there. Especially since it was getting dark, I was looking for somewhere to sleep and it felt like security alarms were going to go off if I even looked the wrong way at a promising spot. I won't miss Union Pass.

Fair enough. Thanks for the replies. The new route looks a bit shorter but has more climbing to even things out by the look of it.

Cues will be forthcoming, as with all the non-ACA reroutes.  It is possible these could become the ACA route in the future, esp. with the construction mess and endless pavement their current route faces south of Rawlins.
