Saddle? Rails fatigue and break after a long training season on gravel or dirt.
Same brand and model that you've been using.

Hmmm. If they've just been replaced, whether or not to do it again this soon is up to you. I'm saving most of my parts replacement until about mid-May. It will give it enough time to get a few miles on it, but not a ton of wear. My list looks a lot like yours

Chainrings, chain, cassette
Brake rotors and pads
Bottom bracket
Check the headset and wheel bearings
Replace all housing and inners
Clean/lube both derailleurs

Check the jockey wheels while you're cleaning those derailleurs, also!  Replacements are cheap (and light - I carry a set with me).

Good suggestion. I know guys that raced last year that had issues with theirs. Cheap insurance. Smiley

Tour Divide training tip of the day from the 60/60 rider.  Butt cream; use early, apply often, and apply liberal amounts before problems get out of control. If you leave a wet spot on your saddle when you dismount, you’ve applied enough.

Still playing around with getting  a Garmin Etrex 20 to charge with a external cache battery.

If anyone is using a cache battery set up with a sinewave revo and dynamo hub , what gps is being used and has it worked sweet

Now tried with garmnin etrex 20
Factory reset
Battery re charge
2 x different etrex 20 GPS
4 x different firmware 2.8 3.0 3.70 , 4.2

Anyone using Etrex 30 and finding it works ?  or for that matter the 20 ? Am i missing something really obvious? ( have charged usb mode etc)

Are you trying to get it to run off of a cache battery via USB or are you trying to recharge AA batteries located inside of the GPS?

Hi Simon
I am running the eTrex 30 with the full K Lite bikepacker setup and a 6000mAh Limefuel cache battery. It has simply worked as a plug and play setup, no issues at all. Is the eTrex 20 different to the 10 and 30 in terms of input voltage?
My setup is described (eventually) in these two posts

Good luck and see you in Banff.

If you're running BB7s I doubt you'll need to replace the housing and cable again but a fresh set of pads for sure. Some fresh grease in your hub bearings is advised too, those water crossings will take a toll on things.

SP hub, etrex 30 with sinewave and various catch batteries--zero issues, all plug and play, old etrex vista's also work fine with same configuration

not following your posts to closely--so may be dumb question -- but have you tested your 20 exclusively with the same battery/USB recharge pack or tried different units? ie-could it be the power pack instead of the 20?

hi all
thanks for feedback / support - somewhat frustrating when the etrex 30 seems to be a plug n play outcome

Answer to questions
- Just trying to power gps not recharge batteries
- have used two external batteries, freshly recharged one at 4500 mah 5 volt 1 a - Plox and an ebay 6000 mah 5v 9 ( both tested on other usb devices - e reader, phone, light and work very well
- have tested 2 etrex 20 - both did not work , tested one in store and it worked! (dont know why, but went home and did a factory reset and downgraded the firmware to 3.7 - same as shop based and it worked for one 15 min test and another 10 min test .Thought it was resolved and ran another test later and back to the same situation (external battery shuts down after 20 sec

will move to etrex 30 if need  though trying not to !!

got to publicly thank Kerry at KLite for all his help - bloody good thinker

cheers

Best of luck getting this sorted!  The last thing anyone needs starting out is uncertainty about gear.

For the NB folks: What are options for getting to AW from nearest airport? And what exactly is the nearest airport?
thanks.

I think Alex Harris is good one to watch this year. I don't know if JayP can recover enough after the AZT race to really go for it?

I do agree, Alex is a quick one.  However, JP....  Uh, does that guy need recovery time?  All I know is that whoever is in front this year really needs to do a better job clearing the path of bears.

the closest larger airports are Tucson and El Paso ... there is an airport in Silver City, NM with I think one local carrier supporting it ..   someplace in all of these threads for previous years was a post about a shuttle from El Paso ..  I am in Tucson, going to start on the 12th at about 6am from AW, if there are enough of us we could set something up, otherwise I was going to have someone drive me over on the 11th.

Hello all,
Re the external batteries - powering Etrex 20 .

In turns out that the external batteries (one a Plox 4500 mah and a ebay 6000 mah ) were at fault. Kerry from Klite explains it as the two devices not having the right hand shake protocol.

As others have mentioned - Limefuel batteries of various sizes work with Etrex 20 / 30

Cheers

Maybe they would work if you used a USB cable with the data (D+/D-) lines disconnected so it can't do anything smart at all, just supply dumb power.
